Levelling up

Sorry if asked before but I don't want to spoil myself reading other threads

I know that to level up you have to get 10 skill points. And that you can improve your skill points by using them. So basically if I had enough money I could buy a level up by training with the various people who offer it?

Also obviously your weapon skill and so on is improved by fighting, but how do you improve skills like speechcraft or mercantile? Just by shopping? [img]graemlins/uhoh1.gif[/img]

To answer your first question... Yes

to improve speechcraft, talk to people...use admire on them, or buy lvls..
For mercantile, find things, sell them at slightly higher prices than the npc offers....also you can buy stuff for under what the npc asks...

Yep, if you train any combo of major/minor skills up by 10 ranks, you gain a level.

To improve speechcraft, you must persuade (admire or taunt) people. To improve mercantile, you can bribe, or adjust the sale price of a trade.

BTW now would be a good time to include the link between leveling and ability modifiers.

All skills are tied to abilities, raising them allows you to increase your ability scores when you level up. You get three points to raise three abilities, modified by a multiplier.

Any combo of skill advancement contribute if you have patched the game. Only major/minor skills contribute for XBox or unpatched games.

10 ranks - 5x
8-9 ranks - 4x
5-7 ranks - 3x
2-4 ranks - 2x
0-1 ranks - 1x

Bripe raises Speechcraft, not Mercantile. For me it does.

How do you adjust the sale price of something?

When you are bartering, you will see the price of the wares you will sell. Close to where the cost is displayed you will see a '+' and a '-'. Use those to adjust the price.

bribe raises both, but primarily mercantilism.

It only raises Speechcraft for me... I tested it... I bribed someone and checked - my Speechcraft gained experience but not my Mercantile.
