When I followed the Sorc spell guides rigidly, I always used to select 'True Sight.
And I never used it. Why would I use True Sight? Does Sunfire care if the target is (Improved) Invisible? Does an exploded Abi Dazim's Horrid Wilting suddenly go "Oh no, he's invisible... I can't wilt him!" No, it doesn't. If you are in the vicinity of an area effect spell, you're brown bread, invisible or not. You can't mess around with Abi Dazim. In the rare instance that you need to lower resistance, you can always do so via stacking it in Chain Contigency. |

Well, some people just want to see the look upon their opponents face when blasting them to pieces...

Or, just for the fact that once you run out of sunfire, or Albi Dalzims, well, if you can't make an invisible target visible, you are most definitely screwed.

If you're not a solo sorcerer it certainly helps. I'm not sure how much your buddies want to be cooked!

Or if you need to dispel an enemy's protections in order to harm them, and that enemy is invisible, then a nice True Sight + breech/pierce magic is welcome.

But you don't need to dispel protections when you're a solo sorc. When (if) you run out of sunfire/Abi Dazilms you've still got oodles of skull traps and cloudkills.

Curious: Where can one look at some of these "Sorcerer Spell Guides"?

Well, generally speaking, it is true that you do not need True Sight all the time, but then again, the same can be said for Lower Resistance, or Spell Trigger, or Animate Dead, etc...
The whole point of a solo Sorcerer's spell-list is that it must be well rounded, and able to adapt to any situation when necessary. The reason why True Sight is necessary for soloing Sorcerers is that there are fights in which you need to dispel the target's invisibility before you can dispel its' protections, and waiting out is not always an option( especially if it is a Boss Fight). You can use Chain Contingency to fire off a Breach and a Ruby Ray of Reversal on an invisible target, but it may not always work. An enemy minion may block it at the last moment, and besides, it seems kind of wasteful to blow a Lvl-9 spell on what a pre-casted Lvl-6 spell can do, and over a longer duration too. True Sight also grants you battleground information. You do not need to worry about unexpected surprises when you have True Sight on. Some spells on the Spell-List can be emulated by items, and the same goes for True Sight. However, items have a terribly long casting time, and usually when you need a True Sight, you need it pronto. Cheers. |

Just for the record, True Sight also, like Dundee said, surprises. Such as those damndable backstabbing thieves...
