I have a four person party - dracon fighter, mook gagdeteer, felpurr bard, and elf bishop, and the bishop is always dragging behind the others in levelling up. Is it better if we're all at the same level all the time, ie delay levelling up until the bishop is ready as well, or doesn't it matter? I'm thinking in terms of monsters that you encounter that are dependent on level.

Thanks

The party average is what determines the game's attempt at matching. This makes it possible to have a dead L1 char who makes all random spawns easy.
(edit to actually answer) Sometimes i'll save levels to make a particular zone easier, taking the levels as soon as i cross. For a couple games i tested the idea of all waiting for the slowest, but i don't think it made enough of a difference. So, my response is, go ahead and level who you can.

Okay, thanks . I love my four person team! So much faster to level up than 6 people plus RPCs.

Actually they don't level up much faster. After all, you gain twice the xp, and that's 1 or 2 and maybe in late game 3 levels more than 8 chars would have. But the real gain is in the skills, since your chars will have much more work to do each level. I'd miss a second portal in your party, but hoofing it is a way to gain even more experience

Actually, it's very noticable up to around L12 or so, that you level faster. (it takes half as many fights...)

Yes, we're level 9-10, and I've really noticed the difference compared to my 6-8 player game. In Trynton we were maybe level 6 or so with 6 players . And you're definitely right about the skills! My fighter is up to 75 in sword already, something we managed maybe level 12 or so in 6 player.

I usually save when I enter an area. If I can survive the first monsters I encounter then I explore a bit further. If not, and if the fight isn't close, I fall back for more levels.

Since you have a bishop, pump every skill point you get with each level into your spellbooks - I usually go for divinity, wizardry and psionics. Don't waste points on others as it will slow your development.

Or practice a lot so you can use your Skill Points elsewhere...
