I'd like to ask what exactly is the ability of a sorcerer? since the manual's discription is not detailed enough... I have no idea of "how to use" a sorcerer, I created a new sorcerer, chosen some initial spells, entered the game and found that I cannot cast any spells... what I have to do to cast spells?

Or can someone tell me detaily what's a sorcerer's "features" ?? Thanks in advance.

You have to memorize the spells before being able to cast them, see your spell book option.
Sorcerer is different from mages since he/she cannot learn spell from scrolls, they gain spells as they level up. With that said, you will have to pick your spells VERY carefully.

Sorceror's are better! You can choose your spells rather than having to find the appropriate scroll (Power Word, Kill. Where would that be???) you can just choose the spells. Plus no forward preparation, just casting what you need, when you need! And with ShadowKeeper you can edit to give you as many spells as you want, and have it so you can cast twenty forward preperation spells!

And to your question about casting spells, you need to rest and it will automatically do your spells!

Also, it is nice to see I am not the only one in a Sorceror class. It seems everybody talks about EVERTHING but Sorcerors!

Having played through as one, it works like this:
>
At each level, you get to select the spells you know (you cannot learn off scrolls). You can cast more spells than normal mages, but gai nthe next spell level one level later (lvl 6 for 3rd lvl spells, for instance). You do not memorize specific spells. You simply cast the ones you want when you need them. When I met some golems, I cast 5 Enchanted Weapon spells for the whole party to bop the metal ones. Then again, I cast 5 Mordenkainen Swords to use on a dragon. Other times I might cast 6 magic missiles or 6 Chromatic Orbs. When you sleep you get the spell casting capacity back, but there is no memorisation required.

Thanks for all the replies, tho I still have some questions...

Is the casting capacity fixed? or can it be raised by level up or magical items?

It seems that sorcerer is quite a powerful class, at the first look... but why seems not so many people talking about it, as DJG said?

I agree the manual doesn't cover the classes as well as it should.I hope the following information will help.

The sorcerer uses the same spells as every other wizards. However, a sorcerer can't learn spells from scrolls and he hasn't got the ability to memorize spells.
A sorcerer gets to pick new spells as he advances in level. He also gets to cast more spells per day.
Each day, a sorcerer can cast a fixed number of level 1, 2, etc. spells. For example, a certain sorcerer knows WEB and VOCALISE and can cast three lvl 2 spells a day. As long as he hasn't used up all three spells he is allowed to cast, he may cast either spell whenever he wants to.
An ordinary mage would have to chose how many VOCALISE and how many WEB spells he wants to be able to use the next day, while the sorcerer gets to pick his spells on the spot.
This means that a sorcerer can pick the best spells he has at any time, though a mage has a much wider arsenal of spells. While a sorcerer is more flexible in battle, I prefer a mage, as a mage can deal with more kinds of situation if you pick his spells well. I know there are people out there who disagree with me, but this is simply my opinion on the matter.

The sorcerer's amount of spells he may use during a day is influenced by magic items such as the ring of wizardry just as with any other mage.

I think this should clears things up for you. If there are still some things not perfectly clear, just try out the sorcerer a while longer and you'll find out what a sorcerer can and can't. You could also play amage and compare the two classes.

When you first enter the game the reason you can't cast anything is because you need to rest straight away as your spells are all erased from memory. In my personal opinion a speacialist mage is better than a sorcerer, I feel to restricted in the variety of spells I can cast with the sorcerer even though I can cast the same spell many times. Mages get there spells faster to.
