I say, yeah, reconstruct them completely- but not in real life!! We have the technology to rebuild an ancient building, to see what it must have looked like- and to figure out why it collasped without touching the site itself. And yes, the technology im talking about is computers and virtual reality. We can put the site into the computer (NOT that literally ), and use grahpics programs to see inside it, outside it, foundations, supports, construction style, whats been added on, and all at the one time!! So, sure, rebuild the sites BUT ONLY ON COMPUTER.

I think they should be kept from further deterioration but not face lifted.

Leave them alone!!!!
That's a pretty good idea LC, in fact good enough to already be in use.
Maybe some people just don't want to leave it at that.
And Death... haven't you ever heard of learning from the past?

Absolutely! 3D rendering of site plans is now fairly common and I once found a 'virtual Mithraeum' on the net - the main problem being that archaeology is usually starved of funds so not many units can afford to use the technology
When it's done well, it looks great though!

I honestly think that they shouldn't worry about stuff like that and care about the future, we know about our history from books....if we just interperate them correctly then we won't have trouble, though keeping sites intact is important too!
yeah but history books used to tell us that sub-saharan africa could never develope any kind of civilization.so when they found the ruins of zimbabwe they came up with things like it was built by the israelites or the romans.any thing to keep from confronting the truth;that the africans were capable of building a city like zimbabwe.

In the movie "Spriggan" a very good lesson is taught... Mankind finds Noah's ark and plans on extrapulating DNA and stuff from it, what they find is that it was, in part, housing alien life below the surface, life which shouldn't have been released into the open-air... and then you have the government and military getting invoulved and before ya know it they bring out all of their Area51 projects and people are getting turned inside out by a little kid with a baseball cap named Colonel Mcdougal who just happens to be Telikenetic!!! AAAAH!... The moral of this story: If its down THERE it don't belong UP HERE ya know what I'm sayin'?
but movies like that are FICTION.and even movies that are based on actual historical events can get screwed up.ever seen disneys pocahantas?i dare anyone to find all those cliffs and water falls they had in the movie.you shouldn't live your life according to what you see in the movies.
