Mmmm, fried for breakfast. Wellard, that is one of my pet peeves, too. When I say something like "enjoy the holidays," I do include Thanksgiving and Chankah, but Christmas is Christmas.

I'm just happy (dispite being Christian) that people are a little nicer to each other during Christmas.

Yeah, that does make it special. As for the commercialism, you can take that or leave it. What other season do you have to think about others more than yourself?

That’s true Attalus, with living a busy life far away from my (original) family, Christmas does make me stop and think about them much more, as well as many distant friends. It also acts as a circuit breaker to people who have annoyed you over the year, allowing you to put rubbish behind you, give a genuine offer of peace and goodwill and too facilitate a fresh start with them again. This is all from someone who no longer classes himself as a Christian but respects the spirit, hope and message that Christmas brings.

Definitely true; there's nothing like an excuse to forgive & forget all the mess that's happened over the year.

Well, as the words of Xen once said, I think I'l go to bed now

I agree with the exercise thing...

As for Christmas, I think its ridiculous to "respect other religions" by saying Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings. It is a *Christian* holiday, so call it by its Christian name. Besides which, I'm sure that there isn't a PC term for Hari Raya, or Deepavali. It's prejudiced against Christians to try and make them use a different name...
Years ago those would have been my exact words. But, I came to realise that non Christians don't really have a choice in this Holiday. They can't go to work or shopping on the 25th, so I we have to respect what they do during the Holiday. I don't celebrate gay pride and I cettainly don't want anybody sticking that in my face. Many of my Christian friends don't do Halloween because of what it represents, so they shouldn't have to here "happy halloween" all the time. Despite what we call it, lets make it great, love for fellow man etc. That's how the Holiday and Christianty should reveal itself!

Edit: sorry, I forgot, no smilies etc allowed here! (removed)

No smilies? I'm a big offender then... I hadn't heard that rule...

Here in Malaysia, which is a Muslim country, but with a very mixed population, EVERYONE, celebrates everything. We all wish each other "Gong Xi Fa Cai", "Selemat Hari Raya", Happy Deepavali or whatever. Everyone is just happy for a chance to celebrate, take a day off work and be happy...

No one minds AT all being given a public holiday.

I'm sure that if people really want to, they can work on Christmas day, public holiday or no...
