I caught some of it earlier this morning. Awesome that they were able to rescue the miners. I can't imagine what it would be like to be enclosed like that for so long.

Re: Anyone watching the rescue of the Chilean Miners?
Nor I. They seem naturally disoriented and overwhelmed at first and of course they have to wear shades when they emerge as their eyes adjust to the daylight. The more recent weeks have, of course, been alot easier for as opposed to the "early days" of being stuck in darkness and isolation with no contact from the outside at all. But it's just so cool to see them reunited with their families when they come out.

Watching it all day! It's simply amazing they are getting out.. I hope they write books on their experience down there.. would be interesting to read. 70 days in a small cavern with 33 people... crazy!
Watching it on the CNN Internet feed---doesn't have the dumb TV host interrupting every 3 seconds like they do...

Re: Anyone watching the rescue of the Chilean Miners?
Caught the tail end as the last person made it to the surface.. amazing
Also saw the video of the first one to arrive, and noted how the president of Chile was there to greet and hug him when he made it to the surface. I personally would have a lot more respect for el presidente if he were also there for the last person... but that's politics for you. And if he *were* there for the last person (as well as those in between), my respect is immense. But I'm extremely glad that they all managed to make it out safely.

Working in Mining myself I can only begin to imagine what these guys went through, amazing scene, and i agree with bung, it was quite inspirational to see the president there.
Also good to note that this is the longest (as far as I know) any miner/s has been trapped underground, and lived. |
