The Julia NPC mod is an idea which I come up with some 8 months ago and its finally starting to come alive! Its just entered beta testing although theres still a long way to go. I thought it would be best to get some input from you guys here because alot of you would not browse the forgotten wars forums and I still want your input.

Details on Julia:
Julia is an RPG style NPC mod for BG2 where your actions influence the development/characteristics/story of the character. Julia is a neutral human female fighter who the player finds left for dead in the South West corner of Waukeen's Promenade. Upon taking her to the Temple of Ilmater in the Promenade and getting her help the player discovers she has lost her memory (cliched I know but it gives me freedom with the character). The player can then decide to help her find out who she is. There will be 3 different possible endings to the story line (good/neutral/evil - depending on what dialogue choices you make) in SoA (in to TOB/not sure at this stage). I would give you more details about the story but I dont want to spoil you.

Strength: 16
Constitution: 15
Dex: 17
Wisdom: 9
Intelligence: 7
Charisma: 12

Basically what I want is suggestions for items that Julia gets for the neutral and evil story lines. And any other questions/suggestions you care to make.

You might want to boost her stats a little. Her total points are 76.

Only Edwin and Minsc has lower total attribute points than Julia, so adding a few points won't hurt

Unless you want her brain to be damaged, you should boost her Intelligence to at *least* nine. Hard to have a coherent conversation with someone otherwise.

By the way, does she have a last name?

Boost all her stats, and maybe make her CN, as True Neutral is 2ed is about maintaining a balance. CN allows for shaping of character IMO.

Low stats were deliberate because I wanted her to be able regain stats depending on how she was treated by the player. I was thinking intelligence was a bit too low but she has been bashed.

I thought her low-mediocre INT and WIS were to indicate/show the results of her amnesia. (Her portrait would seem to deserve more than 12 CHA, however.) I also see no problem with her being True Neutral; Golems are supposed to be True Neutral as well, not because they care about preserving any kind of balance, but because they have no alignment of their own.

Dragon_lord....trying to avoid spoilers here....when you first meet Julia, is there going to be anyone else in the vicinity? That might be tough to script, since I don't know if there are any triggers in that corner of Waukeen's.

I considered having the player interrupt who ever was attacking Julia and then having them run off screen, but its not worth scripting. Since what happened is shown to you later in flashback/dream cutscene. That flashback was a little difficult to get right since there is so little room in the SW corner of the Promenade aswell as keeping it far enough away from Amnish guards.

Still need those item ideas....

INT 7 is not *that* dumb. It's below-average, but better than mentally-disabled. She's probably a bit slow to understand what you're saying. She can talk, just not in complex terms.

As for the portrait indicating CHA, your physical appearance is not the only factor in Charisma (physical beauty was once measured in an expansion rule-set with the COM. score). Charisma includes your personality (so if she talks like "duh" that might detract from CHA as well as reflecting low INT). The portrait doesn't show if she has a huge gap between the front teeth, sour breath, scowls a lot, etc.

Eh... Items... Evil storyline could give a Two-Handed Sword (or whatever weapon she's good with) that does 'x cold damage', or perhaps, depending on the decision that she (or the PC) has to make, could do '+x damage to x alignment or x creature'. Or you could go on a limb and have a sword that only does damage of a certain element (example: 1d10 cold damage Katana). I'm not sure if it can be scripted, though... Another option would be to create a new spell (suitably evil, of course ), slap it into a ring (for 1x a day or something), and give it to her. Just some ideas.

i did have an idea for the evil version - a full face helm - something story-like about the evil faceless warrior / black knight figure

abilities would include something like mental domination, horror, dire charm . . . stuff like that anyway - its a think that makes people cowed and scared anyway - i'll leave the balancing to you maybe need to add save penalties for it to be usable in ToB i suppose - make it a regeneration item if you like

actually if you had 'horror' as a permanent effect it could be interesting - scaring off people who'd otherwise talk to you as well as the 'bad' guys . . . i'm rambling now [img]smile.gif[/img]
