We just got this notice from our management board (building locations starred out for security purposes):

Arrangements for watching the World Cup at work.

In response to great staff interest, TVs for watching World Cup matches are being installed in the following locations:

*****: 8th floor restaurant

*****: cinema in west block basement

*****: LG09

*****: 5th floor café

As far as possible, and subject to technical constraints, these rooms will be made available for all World Cup games. Notices will be issued informing staff if there are changes to these locations.

Other DEFRA sites are encouraged to take similar steps and advise their staff of arrangements.

Many matches will be televised during core hours. When watching a match please respect the needs of working colleagues by keeping noise to a minimum. Staff are expected to make up the working time they spend watching football, and should agree their working hours with line managers

Enjoy the World Cup!

Oh and I drew Ecuador in the sweepstake!

I heard that it was a Government directive that Government departments make every effort to allow staff to watch the Argentina match next week.

Go ECUADOR!

Gee, I wish I got to watch the football at work . Then again, for me, all the matches are in the prime viewing times of 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm in the afternoons. I would have to work back late if I wanted to see them at work - naaah, let's go down the pub instead .

Ah alas we have no bar on site. But the building I used to work in a few years back did.... the cause of many a lost afternoon It used to be common practise in the Civil Service to include a site bar behind the canteen.
