hmmm....I think American military foriegn policy has always been geared toward protecting American political and/or economical interests. The side effect of Humanitarianism is usually trumped out for the media when applicable. I'd be wrong to say that America isnt a humanitarian leader in the world, just that most U.S. militiary actions haven't necessarily been "just to get rid of an opressive govt." since ww2 or maybe korea. Our humanitarian side is more profound in civilian orginizations. Anyway just my opinion, feel free to tear it to shreds

Next he will say (Dio) "but are you poor? No? See then I wasn't refering to you now was I?" He sure likes to argue himself into such small little corners. LOL

Even with that incidents in New York... i dont' see any countries physically sending aide to us. Sure they say were here for u, but really they dont' do crap.
I have to disagree Nostron. it's difficult to know how we can aid you. Sending money to your Government would be like me sending Bill Gates a few quid if his house burned down. When the situation is clearer I'm sure there will be some kind of fund set up for the victims and their families and I would be happy to donate to this.

You certainly don't need any more manpower. We can send specialists trained in finding people buried underground but sadly the time for this may well have passed. I'm sure the offer was made but with American airspace being closed it just wasn't possible.

You say that the moral support doesn't do crap. I get the feeling that many Americans are drawing strength from the solidarity shown throughout the world.

Once this happened the US Intelligence agencies immediately set out to find the people involved. They would not have been doing this in isolation. They will have been in contact with their counterparts in countries around the world. All possible assisstance will be being given to track the perpetrators down.

Finally there is the military and logistical support that you will need to attack these people. I am typing this from Airstrip One. A small island off of the coast of Europe, (you may know it as Britain) . It is from here that the B52's will take off (this is one of the reasons why Britain has suffered terrorist attacks at the hands of the bin Laden group). All of America's allies will open their airspace to allow overflights. Other countries will allow attacks to be made from their territories.

America and many European states help poor countries in times of disasters. I would like to think that we do this out of some moral obligation and not because we expect something in return.

I have never seen Dio argue himself into a corner. He is one of the most reasonable people in this forum. I don't ALWAYS agree with him, but I often do, and in this I do. America is not crippled. You have been wounded (as have the countries who had citizens in the Towers), but it is not a death-blow, nor even seriously disabling, even though it IS the most painful wound you have ever suffered, and even though the rest of the world (including me) DOES feel your pain.
You are bereaved and grieving and shocked and you have the support and sympathy of the world. But you are a great nation and you will overcome the pain and heal your wound.
But PLEASE do not expect the all but terminally crippled countries of this world to be able to offer much assistance.

I posted this in the sequel to this thread too (America never gets help2!!!

Nostron this may sound corny...but i think everyone wants to help regardless of if the way they do it or don't do it shows.
How much product that is being used to save lives in the states right now is from another country. How much of the rubber in the firemans hoses is from the states. Or the gas powering the ambulances...

Sometimes the way help is viewed is a blurry line. At least the positive healing energy of all the minds of the world is focused on New York...

Seriously. You have more resources than enough. Do you think the american people are suffering?
Well, in many poor, asian, countries, the children are now searching ruins and sewers for rat-nests. Know why? Because the rats collect seeds for the winter, and if the children found some, they'll have something to eat...
UN needed 1 biljon dollar for researching about aids, a sum they barly collected... while the USA could afford to put about $40 biljon on their military defences...
Nono, you do not suffer more than anyone else, and you are not going to go under. Stop whining, and think of how lucky you are!

Istaron, the US does need help, no matter how powerful they may be. It's not simply a case of having enough money, but also do with the fact the America needs troops, information and other resources from outside the US. That's why it's so important that the whole world stands behind America in this, and gives them all the help they need. And don't forget, it wasn't just Americans who died on September 11th. Hundreds of people from all corners of the globe perished that day. This wasn't just an attack on the US, but on the world itself. That's why we are obliged to help our American friends in any way we can.

The Netherlands is suppyling the US with kickass F-16's. They helped you in the Gulf War and will again in this battle against terrorism. I don't know how far other countries have gone to help, but at least mine has done its bit
