Can anyone help, please? Word problem
I need help and am hoping someone here can provide it.
I was working on a story using Word. I'd been writing for WEEKS. Tonight I wanted to add a bit before sleeping. As I was writing, everything just suddenly... vanished. The page went blank. I panicked and thought to re-open the file and see if I could get it back like that. Being a moron, I accidentally hit save instead of open, saving the now-blank page over my file. I am ready to scream and hurt someone. Does anyone know of a way to recover a file after something like this?

Re: Can anyone help, please? Word problem
There are ways. System restore is the first that comes to mind, although I am not sure if documents are thrown in there. I make a habit of emailing myself word documents that I have on my hard drive, just to have as backups.
Temorary folders should also have some of your saved work in there. At least one draft i'd imagine. Again, I haven't experienced it with Word, so I don't know, but you should indeed be able to recover at least some form of your data. Do nothing for now, research like hell online, but don't be hasty until you know what you're doing. If you can manage it, don't shut down your PC until you have a solution, since alot of temp. folders are deleted on a reboot.

Also, check your folder where Word saved it, I know mine makes auto backups occasionally, hope you have it enabled.

Can you "Edit" "Undo" "Save" or "Record"?
System resort is the only other thing I can think of, but I'm doubtful about it. Try to remember to keep a flash drive plugged in while you're working on it and to save to that as well.

Re: Can anyone help, please? Word problem
I cannot edit or undo or anything like that. From what I know, system restore does not restore files, but I may try that.
I suspect everything is gone.

Unfortunately, I think you're toast... You might look in the folder where the file was saved to see if there are any dregs left behind, but I'm not hopeful.

Re: Can anyone help, please? Word problem
1. Do not power down.
2. Do not exit Word. 3. Open file, press "Ctrl" and "Z" simultaneously. 1. Left click the "start", mouse over to recent documents. 2. If it's there, attempt to open it. 1. Open Word. 2. Left most pane, scroll it down, look under recent projects. 3. Attempt to open. Last hope, Open file, "edit" click 'compare document". (This may be OO only, as I don't have Word on this rig). The problem with 'temp' is if you have exited the program, it will usually dump the data to recover the space back. Stuff happens, and no matter how computer savvy we might be, always remember, the guy who dropped out of college founded the conglomerate that created the monster known as MS. MS-Word is an underling! To save files from myself, I have a working file, and a saved file on a transport device. There is no doubt my stolid capability is greater than most, so if I can train me, you can train you. EVERY 15 minutes of work, save original, EVERY 30 minutes, save the back up. NEVER, use the backup, unless of course, you need to. Once the back up is loaded. Close it. NEVER allow the backup to become the primary!
