Vanyel--
if you're interested in acquiring D&D or AD&D sourcebooks of the past, it's getting harder and harder to do so. gary gygax, the original creator of the game, will not be writing any kind of sourcebook for the game again. I believe that the reason for this is that TSR (the original publishers and company behind D&D) got bought out by Wizards of the Coast pretty recently, and they have instilled the new AD&D third edition. consequently, the older books are out of print. Baldur's Gate I & II both follow AD&D 2nd edition rules pretty closely...the only tangent that I know of is Throne of Bhaal, that makes use of the high-level abilities that are used in the newest edition of the game.

Another alternative to the actual books is the AD&D Corerules software. A less recent version would have ADD 2nd edition rules, Including complete editions of the core books ( players handbook, DM guide) as well as a character generater, and a dice emulator. I have had it for 2-1/2 years, and I haven't llok for it recently so I have no clue as too it's availablity, particularly with the new 3rd edition pushing the older stuff out of print.
