In my view (it might be a little black and white), the best way to prevent crime in our society is to treat criminals, not punish or scare them.

Also, it's better to find the reasons as to why people commit cries (poverty, insufficient mental care etc.) and work on them instead of having more, better armed and scarier police officers.

I'm left wing, and i belive that these views reflect that.

I'm off to work soon so i can't write any more right now. I once wrote a big speech on the death penalty and how to prevent crime, it's in swedish but i could translate it if someone is intrested. Let me know!

even though most countries are capitalistic some lean to the left and some lean to the right. Sweden (for example) is very left wing if compared to the United States.

No, not Scandinavia either. We live in capitalist countires that just happen to have an extensive welfare system. Some people call the Nordic countries 'socialist', but they are usually the same people who call everyone they don't like socialists.

The best way to reduce crime figures is to not report crimes. That what alot of this quantative research boils down to...how much weight do statistical figures really bear? Can you get an accurate representation of a society and a culture by mathematically crunching numbers? Personally, I don't think so, but many others see things differently.
