Well I am rather new to this game, however I have many years exp with pnp AD&D and the Forgoten Realms.

Here is the situation: I am in planar sphere, and have found these cotton pickin' coweled wizards. My main character--a mage lvl 7--
and the rest of my party seams to be about 10 lvls below these guys.
Strategy has gotten me this far however, I can't sean to take the coweled guys with my limited spell protections. Protection from evil and stoneskin only go so far. Would you say I need to go back and gain many lvls before attempting this quest-- I have not lvl'd yet?

Or should I be able to take the coweled wizards at this stage. My crew is equiped very well by ad&d standards.
Everyone has +2 or better weapons and -4to3 ac.

Let one person open that door and shoot a cloudkill in the room, peferably from a wand and cloose the door again. If nothing else it will soften them up. After that you could try summoning some creatures to help you fight and do you have a druid in your party ? They have a good spell to go against mages called 'insect swarm' or it's higher level equivalant 'insect plague' or is it vice versa. Anyway these spells will help you against mages.

Yes insect plague is a good spell. Use it if you can.

Watch out for their summoning spells as well...i seem to remember a Pit Fiend coming at me when i went through the doorway. Summon some animals or Aerial servants (they rock). If you have to, retreat to the door and go back out and rest

These guys are tougher than a lot of things in BG2
Its the wizard on the left that is hardest.....the right girl is quick to die.
He has a habit of castign death fog, death spells
all sorts of annoying stuff

Sequencer spells are good i found, load them up with protection removers then cast web into the room before you see him, then a cloudkill and a fireball
He will then come into view and you should try and take his protects down fast and attack him with everything

I found warriors just couldnt get to him in time before his protections went up nor could i drop his defenses so they could kill him in time.......he always wasted them before i got that far
And he loves his death fog spell

Thanks for the tips, they answer my question. I have reached this point in the game to soon. As I am not able to use half the spells you recommend.

Thanks, I will plug away until I get it.

*cheese mode on*
Difficult? Normally those two are already dead after only two or three fireballs... And with several mages in your party (as I prefer), that's not even that cheesy, it's possible to cast 3 fireballs at a time. At that point they still don't have their protection spells triggered, and they will never have time for it either...
