I know that you can pause the game by pressing P, or maybe it was shift+P. Anyway, when I open up my inventory, char info, etc screen, the game continues. You know the little window that you see while on those screens? I can tell from there that the game is still going on. I vaguely remember reading something about how to fix this in the manual years ago, but I just couldn't figure out what to do. How do I make it so that the game is paused when I access my inventory?

Hmmmm.... I'm not completely sure, but the back of my manual seems to indicate that hitting the letter "T" allows you to toggle real-time mode on and off. So try hitting that once first before going to check your inventory.

Personally, I kind of enjoy having something sneak up on me while I'm rooting through the backpack. Adds another element of "realism"...

Thanks. I used to kinda like that too when I had gotten my characters pretty powerful. But right now, I'm having a load of trouble surviving all these areas that I kinda remember. It should be an advantage that I remember a bit about them, but I'm still failing miserably . With my current characters, I don't think I want something sneaking up on me .

You can also enter the "save game" menu. Once in there the game stops running.

Hmm...ah yes...in order to pause the game so that everything stops i think you have to toggle the real-time option like Bungleau says...

*rummages through backpack before getting mugged by a ratikin (sp?) thief*

Come on, the world doesn't stop spinning when you are rummaging through your back pack. No! This is a great feature in Wizards & Warriors and not a very common feature since most games pauses when going to the inventory screen. I love it! Always checking behind your back while looking at a sword.

I try to keep an eye on the little world-window when I'm checking inventory, but every so often, I glance up and find myself asking, "Now just where did that troll come from?"

Great fun!

I like the feature alot too, well except for when it comes down to powering up. I mean if you are like me you wait until you can gain 10-20 levels before you click on the level up button. When something sneaks up on me. I'm screwed. They just hack away while I'm standing there taking it all.

You play differently than I do. I take my level-ups as quickly as possible to get the additional skill training.

Same here. I find there to be a disadvantage if you wait to level up: You'd be at level 3 instead of 13, etc. There's a huge difference not just in the HP that you could have acquired, but in the skills as well. Going all the way to the boogre caves at level 3 is much harder than going at lvl 13, obviously
