try the baldurs gate series, it's cool, or go with neverwinter nights, very cool i like it although my darn computer can't play it.

I would try the pencil and paper route of gaming. Dungeons and Dragons, Rifts and Champions are my personal favorites but there are many many more.
The online computer RPGs are ok, but when everyone is online, some seem to lose their common sense and begin screaming at everyone. Also you have hacks, cheats and other sorts of problems that can be a pain in the ass.
