Bard: oohh look at my prancing around in my golden stockings playing my harp, ohh please dont hurt me, I have a poetic liscence, I shall attack you with my limited array of mage spells, and try to woo you with my harp! Also when I am finished I use my inferior pick-pockets and pathetic fighting to kill you with laughter!

Mage: The mage is the epitome of power, wielding life ending magics and with the ability to alter physical reality. Your bard comes up, and the mage sends him fleeing with a horror spell, and pepperin his ass with lightning bolts as he flees.

In short the mage is a powerhouse in the right hands. The bard is useful in the right hands, nothing more, challenging yes, practical NO. In my eyes the bard is a luxury. Thats just my opinion though...

'Zactly, Shank. Bard and mage? Come on... the only thing a bard can be compared to (perhaps) is a thief.

Well, don't skalds or whatever offer a +4 bonus to your AC at high levels? That would be pretty helpful.

You mean with their song? Yep, they do. Skalds are good. But it's ludicrous to try and compare them to a mage.

On numerous ocassions the bard has been voted the best class to go from a roleplaying point of view.I still think that mages are essential in a group and bards really as shank said it r a luxury.
