Okay, to settle my own mind, once and for all: do you think I'm cheating?
Here's how I played my last game: 1. Used arbitrage rate on magic arrows in the Gael Serran to maintain sufficient gold levels. Stopped using arbitrage once fletchery was attained. For those unfamiliar with the term, "arbitrage" refers to taking advantage of a difference in pricing whereby you can buy something cheaply and sell it for more. 2. Joined every guild as soon as possible, taking promotion quests, joining, and then changing my mind. (made possible by arbitrage) 3. Trained every character at every guild, every time possible. (made possible by arbitrage) 4. Tree-surfed to the Lost Sea area to get around the wizard guild quest bug. 5. Kept one character away from the Leprechaun quest to get the final rogue guild quest Since I play the patched game, the original money cheat doesn't work, nor do the toughen cheat or the quest-switching cheats. So, I leave it up to you: Am I cheating? Is there something I may be doing that I've forgotten, which may be cheating? Enquiring minds want to know.

No, I don't think you have cheated. How do you do the 'arbitrage' before fletchery. There is so much I haven't tried or know about in this game. Sounds interesting. Do you know how to bargain with the store keepers? Or is this what you are talking about? Can you explain further?

Yes you big cheater there !!! Hmmm NO Bungleau I wouldn't consider any of that cheating. You are taking advantage of some mishaps in the game but on hte other hand the gold "cheat" is also a mishap in the game. Joining several guilds can of course be considered cheating (unless you actually completed the ascension quest, but you didnīt right?). But again thatīs taking advantage of a minor glitch in the system. And if the IRS had a glitch in their system allowing you to duplicate your money, wouldnīt you take it? Keeping one char away from the leprechaun isnīt cheatin at all Bungleau, thatīs planning for the future. My conclusion to all this dravel would be, no Bungleau youīre not cheating! And to everyone that feels the gold bug is cheating I say:
Cheat awaay!!!

Hi Morningstar, didnīt notice your questions, I was too busy accusing Bungleau lol !! Letīs see, some arrows from the Bushi dojo you can buy cheaper than you can sell. Iīm not sure which ones they are (check best tip thread) but say you buy them for 20 gold a piece. You can then sell them at the armory for 30 gold a piece. See? And you canīt bargain with the shopkeepers unfortunately. What you can do is getting the merchant trait which will lower their prices (buying) and raise yours (selling). You can get thet trait from the thieves guild.
Jump to Bungleauīs answer instead of reading mine Morningstar!! His is better! [ 08-22-2002, 03:26 PM: Message edited by: WillowIX ] |

Gday Bungleau,
I don't think you are cheating because you are working within the games parameters. If you were taking advantage of someting that is rectified in the patch & were only playing unpatched to "cheat" I think it might be cheating. Using arbitrage (good word, it isn't even in my kids dictionary) isn,t cheating it is good utilisation of the merchant skill. I consider tree surfing as a secret rather then a cheat, my son sitting next to me agrees. In regards to reneging on quests I don't do it myself because I think it is a breach of faith with the guilds, but It is just a moral issue like killing "good" charactors eg the dragon. Some players go to great lengths to be an evil charactor, thats fine because it's part of playing the game. My main charactor is always Sir Kev the Paladin, protector of justice. My next game might be played with my new mage "Loumistro". He might be a good candidate for an evil mage. I played my last game patched. This time I am playing unpatched because I had to reinstall the game & didn't get around to finding the patch. What does the patch really do? Last time I installed it because I kept spinning in circles, but this time I have triple the ram & it is not a problem. Should I install the patch? & Why? By the way I cant see WillowIX's sig. Is this because of the blitz on oversize sigs in general discussion?

Smilies again lol. Perhaps we should add this to the best tip thread lol . Smilies are added by removing the * from these:
:*D --> ;*) --> :*showoff: --> Check the "Graphics library" button at the top of the page for more smilies to add. There are a whole bunch of them! |

Grin!
Looks like a "clean" game to me! Every game needs to have ways to allow the player to get on with it and you've described doing that without making use of any of the "undocumented features" such as the gold bug. Wyv |

Actually, WillowIX, any magic arrows can be sold for mor than you can buy them for, and there's an unlimited supply. In the Bushi dojo, you can by the Takekatsu arrows and sell them for six times what you paid. And you can stay in the guild -- you don't have to go over to the armory to sell them.
Arbitrage doesn't work with non-magic arrows. They get bought for less than you can buy them.
