I want to try the popular Kensai/Mage combo and I am wondering what I should equip on him. Thanks!

Well if you have the bonus merchants installed you'll want to buy the Robe of Vecna as soon as you can. But if you don't you definitely want a robe of archmagi for the appropiate alignment of your character. Then your going to want all the stuff that gives AC bonuses.

My current 12th level Kensai/15th level Mage has a -9 AC and a -3 THACO with the following:

Robe of Vecna
Dusty Rose Ioun Stone
Amulet of Power
Girdle of Hill Giant Strength
Ring of Gaxx
Ring of Protection +2
Cloak of Balduran(Bonus Merchants)
Boots of Grounding

He is a Grandmaster in Longsword as is wielding Blackrazor with ++ in single weapon style. This guy is a force to be reckoned with! Now if you want an even better THACO you can go with the girdle of frost giant strength, and the pale green ioun stone.

you could also dual wield, Dakkon's zerth blade, the cesfury, defender of easterhaven all make sense in this situtation

I recommend Boots of Speed instead of Boots of Grounding. Also, the kensai/MAGE can wear Cloak of Sewers (this cloak, as well as the Cloak of Balduran, can be weared along with a Ring of Protection).

As far as weapons go, you can also consider giving your Kensai/Mage ***** in quarterstaves and then getting the Staff of the Magi. I have this setup for my Kensai/Mage (whom I'm soloing right now) and it's a lethal weapon in her hands.

along with teh staff of the magi you can get the staff of Rhynn very soon in the game (a +4 weapon that can kill anything in the game) to tide you over until you get the elemental staves and the magi staff

with the ring of gaxx on there is no need for boots of speed, better to have boots of grounding and throw a ligthning bolt all over the place.
