Question Mark

The Discovery Channel show "Unsolved History" is investigating several of the morass of conspiracy hypotheses surrounding the JFK assassination. They recreated the path of Elm Street through Dealy Plaza and set up a sniper's nest at the appropriate height and distance from the motorcade path in an open field near the Trinity River. They bought and refurbished three rifled identical to the one found in the sniper's nest. They found a building in which they could recreate the path of Oswald from the sniper's nest to the second-floor lunchroom in the Texas Schoolbook Depository building. Finally, they got a man who fits Oswald's age, build, and general physical condition to time his movements versus the findings of the Warren Commission.

Conclusions thus far:

According to the expert marksman they hired to recreate the actual shooting, Oswald (a trained marksman) could have easily performed all three shots at the target in question (90 yards distant, moving 10 mph away from the sniper), including a fatal head shot. However, the rifle misfired 20% of the time....

Except for the grassy knoll, the other suspected sniper locations have been ruled to be impossible. There was no clear shot at Kennedy from any storm drain and the angles from the other office buildings were wrong.

Oswald could have easily walked from the sniper's nest to the lunchroom in time to meet the policeman who found him there and not be out of breath. This was only 90 seconds after the fatal shot.

Wearing similar clothing on a similar day, the man retracing Oswald's steps could have walked from his house on Beckley Street to the first verified sighting of him after the assassination, and then continue on to the site of the Tippit shooting withing the alloted time.

Final conclusion: Oswald could have carried out the assassination all on his own.

I think the reason so many conspiracy theories have survived for so long is because it was too depressing to think that a single man could have toppled the Presidency in only 8 seconds. On the other hand, there are eyewitness testimonies that cite bullet holes in the windshield of the Presidential limousine and that contradict the official autopsy of Kennedy, especially with respect to head wounds. Finally, the "magic bullet" that zigzigs through two human bodies and also manages to work itself out onto the stretcher in Parkland Hospital...too bizarre to be easily believed.
Our human brain attempts to makes sense of things that don't make sense. Kennedy being killed in so public a fashion didn't make sense, so conspiracy theories offer a nice compact solution.

It was the CIA! The CIA I tell you!

Seriously though, one cannot deny that some party has gone through an aweful lot of trouble to make Mr Oswald look suspicious. Like letting a 'fake Oswald' train with a sniper rifle in public.
And lets look at the facts.

1) Oswald joins the Marines, has acces to top secret information.
2) Oswald defects to the USSR. Informs the American embassy that he will share everything he's learned with the Soviets.
3) Oswald moves back to the US. In Rotterdam, he is intercepted by a mysterious third party.
4) Oswald arrives in the US.. and heck.. he is not arrested for treason.

Hm.. maybe it was Chocs great grandfather
