Question Mark D&D question - Wall of the Faithless, Kelemvor etc.

Anyone know if the wall is taken from "real-life" mythology? I always assumed it was for some reason, maybe a Greek legend or something that I vaguely recall but I can't find anything on this with initial searches. Is it derived from mythology or soley the creation of D&D authors?

This is strictly a D&D thing and not based on any particular mythology.

I think some mythologies stated that faithless people or apostates would wind up wandering outside the realm of the afterlife, alone and forlorn forever. If you think about it, that's pretty harsh--no other company for all of eternity? *yeesh*

No, the Forgotten Realms were set up by Lord Ao, especially after the Time of Troubles, to take care of their faithful, many of whom were being ignored by the gods. In return, their power is directly a result of faithful followers.

What game is that from? Is that NWN?

Yeah, this is prolly why I made the assumption. I do indeed think I have heard some similiar themes in more than one mythos over the years. No walls of the faithless, but purgatory concepts for unbelievers etc. Was just making sure.

And yeah Memnoch, the ss is from NWN 2 MotB. Great story, clunky gameplay but that Xpac is worth the trouble if you need an FR fix badly.

I thought it looked really familiar. I am in Storm of Zehir at this time, slowly making some progress but I'm still not certain where it is actually going. I am still not very far into it, having just made it back to Crossroad Keep where, in a way that only disconnected games can do, no one remembers my character.

SoZ didn't go anywhere for me either so I got bored and gave up after about an hour or so. Still have no real idea what the story was about. The only one I didn't fall asleep on was MotB. I could forgive the draconian gameplay of NWN2 and get through it, based on a compelling story alone. The Westgate one got so-so reviews too so I didn't bother.

Had they left NWN 1 alone, added new updated textures and skins, along with some new classes and spells, all would be fine. Just "modding" it instead of rebuilding. As soon as they started screwing with that UI and scripts converting it from the original, they turned an amazingly fluid game into a mediocre one. The Dragon Age engine runs far better by comparison. If you can't make something better, don't try - it works as intended.

Maybe they got the idea from the roman's Hadrian's Wall and it's surrounding area?

If that wall was made of people, maybe.
