I'm sputtering...I can't even express my outrage and dismay at what I heard on the radio this morning!

Apparently the good state of Texas offered to take in the people from New Orleans who have been sheltered in the leaking, powerless Superdome and even started sending busses to evacuate them to the Astrodome. I was so impressed by the generosity and good will that sent forth and the fact that it was a really decent, kind and compassionate act.....then I heard this morning that the busses were being stopped and people weren't being evacuated anymore because someone is SHOOTING at the busses?!!!! *(%&%*($@&%*%$&%

Didn't get to hear if the shooting was in TX or New Orleans or what but f anyone knows more about it, post it here... this is just outrageous.

I really can't believe how low you'd have to be to try and sabotage a relief effort to rescue those people. Many of them were ill or had sick children/relatives and couldn't leave on their own or didn't have money/transportation or anywhere to go so they ended up in the Superdome. Now this... just when you start to think things are improving for them... *grrrr*

Shooting from the Superdome at rescue copters.

The Superdome is sheltering the kind of refugees we shouldn't care about anyway.

Time to declare martial law and get the Guard in there to clean this crap up. There will always be those waiting to take advantage of this level of chaos, and they need to be dealt with quickly and by whatever means are necessary.

John D, thanks for that link. It's worse than I heard... I cannot believe anyone would do this.. shooting at helicopters evacuating the ILL and INJURED? I keep hearing WHAT IS WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE in the back of my head and I never can come up with an answer besides them just being plain and pure evil.

The looting is bad enough but this takes the prize for low in my book.

TL, gonna assume that was a sarcastic comment and not serious, cuz I know you.

Thoran, I think you're right, things are a mess down there and the scum are taking advantage of it but hopefully the military and local police can get things back under control soon!

Well the priority has changed from rescuing trapped people, after 3 days stuck in an attic under the hot southern sun, I hate to say it but there aren't many if any survivors So the authorities are switching to law and order/crowd control now. I'd hate to cross a New Orleans cop, they are a take no prisoner kind of force. If you've ever mouthed off to one of them in the french quarter, you probibly picked yourself up off the ground. I've seen them bust heads.

I also heard that helicopters trying to land on the helipad at a hospital turned around and left because there were about 100 people on the roof, and some had guns, and the operator got scared and left.

At this point, seeing how people are stealing tv's and shooting at rescue 'copters, I think getting a little tough isn't such a bad idea!

I may get screamed at for saying this but I have to...Why in the hell did these people stay there??? They knew a Cat 5 hurricane was heading their way and they said "eh, we'll just hang out in the Superdome how cool will that be". Now, let's all keep in mind that New Orleans is below sea level as is the Superdome, so why would that even be thought of as a decent place for a shelter?? What were they thinking?! And I've seen some of the pictures of the babies down there...there's no way that they could be at that point of starvation in that short amount of time. People dying of disease??? I mean WTF?
I just don't get it...

And I apologize for raving.
