Okay, I have a pentium 600, 256 megs of ram, asus geforce 3 64mb card, and I CANNOT get this game to run smoothly. I run it with all the grpahical settings turned off or down, and it still will not scroll smoothly when I'm in game. Characters take like a 5-10 second delay before they even attack an enemy. I've tried every install option, I've patched it, tried with and without 3d acceleration, but its all the same. I am currently using directx 8. Just for the record the opening demo movie of IWD halts and stutters as well. ANY tips on what to do would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Is it hard drive delay, or some sort of video delay? ie. does your HD light go crazy when this lag occurs? If it is HD lag, defragging can help alot. Otherwise, I'm not too sure. Does the sound chop out too?

is that DirectX 8, or DirectX 8a? either try removing directx8 and going back to directx7a, or upgrade to 8a. in any case, i've heard directx8 is buggy buggy buggy.

www.directxbuster.de has an application for removing directx, since microsoft are jackasses when it comes to directx (no uninstall feature).

I'm running directx 8.0a, and no problems here.

Without more info, I'd say that this sounds like an OS problem, and the simplest solution would be to defrag, format your HD, and reinstall your OS (preferably 98 or 98se). Spending time troubleshooting windows is a useless endeavor, most of the time its faster to just start over.

That would be my first question as well - what OS are you using? I havent been that impressed with Windows 2000 or XP and prefer the 98 version.

Another option is to uninstall the game and then reinstall it. I had some problems installing the game to both my PCs at home (have 2 so the woman can also be online or play games or work). Good luck!

Could it be faulty game discs? Take the game back to the store, get 'em to load and test it if they will - if not make 'em give you a replacement. I've had to do this with a couple of games I bought. Best of it was, with ONE of those games the supplier KNEW it was a faulty batch be continued selling them anyway not telling customers. Didn't take them off the shelf for WEEKS after he had been told to, either.

And, hey -

WELCOME TO IRONWORKS!

Check you aren't sharing interrupts (ie turn off unneeded com ports etc in bios_
Also make sure footsteps sound is off - especially during fighting - read the text file in the game directory for further hints
