We all know how frustrating it can be to get in or out of the Stout Mines. You wind up with a zillion mining permits and still can't get where you're going. I THINK I may have found a way to "reset" the loop if you're trying to get out and can't. Back by the first elevator shaft is a narrow passage leading to Senor Pastolio. If you can get far enough up that passage (use your shortest character), he'll make the statement that causes the loop of doors opening/closing before you can get through. But the doors don't activate. Then, go and give him your permit and you can get out. At last. Finally. Whew! Unfortunately, this doesn't work if you're trying to get IN since you have to BE in to do it. And, unfortunately, you can't KILL the annoying Senor Pastolio in revenge for his intransigent.

Very interesting!!

If we can get some other players to confirm that this does work, we'll have to add it to the Best Tips thread!!

Thanks, CatsMeowCentral!!!

I can't wait to find out if this works for anyone else. I'm certainly not going to interrupt my current game to go back there and try it again. I might get stuck there forever! LOL By the time I decided to try that passage, I'd spent 45 minutes trying to get out and had I-don't-know-how-many permits scattered all over the floor.

I haven't run into this problem often, but when I have, I noticed that I was always standing right near him.

I tried giving him the writ and then backpedalling away as he starts talking. When I've done that, he's never sent me back in.

Just a thought to try that might be a whole lot easier than some of the other complicated methods that seem to work.

As for wanting to kill him, I suppose a few flame drops or fire storms in there might do a little something... just so long as you never want to get back in, that is.

Bungleau, I've tried backpeddling too but it seems once he's in that darned loop, even that doesn't work.
I tried firestorm on him but you can't "Target" him. Oh well.

Wyv, flicking the switch behind the gate does work (usually about 50%) of the time. As an alternate solution, I recommend one of the two following:

1- Call of home: just give the writ and cast "call of home" immediately. If you timed it right, you'll end up in town in a heart beat. (also works with "teleport" if you have a portal created out of the mine and with "vanish")

2- Drop all your writs except for one. Give the writ to the gatekeeper and RUSH to the door. Keep pushing against the door. You'll have a slip second to get out between the "I'm letting you out now" and the "I'm letting you in now"
