1) When is the best time to consider changing ones role? Can one do it too early?

2) What is the highest level one should make a skill like sword or any other for that matter? Is there a highest level or a level where going higher is a waste?

Thanks,

Andrew

1) It's complicated, and yes.
Generally, warriors should ascend asap - Barbarian first for fury, lockpick and hp, then either paladin or ranger for the spells. I don't see the point of rogues at all - a warrior -> barbarian is better in every way. Priests also could consider going through paladin and ranger asap, since they'll get the same spells. Wizards should hang on for the high level stone spells since no other class gets them. I usually change classes every 10-14 levels depending on what skills or spells I'm waiting on. Leave warlock until later, since they can learn spells of any school that the character already has, and so they can fill in any missing spells.
Some examples, with the level to change at:
a)Warrior(1) -> Barbarian(3) -> Paladin(12) -> Ranger(12) -> Samurai(12) -> Warlock(14) -> Ninja or Assassin (forever)
Has every spell school except stone (wiz only), have buttloads of hp, lots of cool traits, and fights like a threshing machine.
b)Wizard(12) -> Paladin(12) -> Ranger(12) -> Samurai(12) -> Ninja(12) -> Warlock(14)-> Assassin (forever)
has every spell in the game, and still the best fighter as well. The only disadvatage is the low hitpoints in the wizard stage. Not just a tank-mage but a tank-archmage
I honestly don't see the point of starting as a rogue or priest - a warrior or wizard can do the same things better - perhaps that's why the game is called 'Wizards and Warriors' rather than 'Priests and Rogues'?

2) it's kind of self regulating - it gets so expensive and the opportunities to train become so few and far between that it's unlikely that you'll have the opportunity to waste points. I try to aim for 7 on most things, and that's enough for utility skills like lockpicking, identify etc, and will get your level 7 spells. Then when I have all the skills that I want, I pick a few to develop further. I doubt that having 12 in sword and second weapon could be considered a waste.

Keep one thing in mind, though, if you change a priest to a paladin for instance, you can only choose spells for every two levels of magic in that area, for instance:If you didnt have it already , you would have to have lvl 10 in spirit for a lvl 5 spell!
This way its best not change until you have all the spells you want and then change!
Another thing: If your new class doesnt have that skill/magic realm you cant invest points or choose spells from there at all!
I agree that the warlock is different as he can get spells at the same per level range, due to his special place in the classes as heavy magic user;
still dont forget that you can only change once into a class (per game) and the exp you need for higher levels should be higher than the exp you need for the highest level you need (for spells or whatever) in your new class, thatīs a rule of thumb for me!

This was an extremely old thread to be dusted off.
There have been many threads since this one was posted back in December of last year on this same topic. Both posters to this thread are no longer active on this board.

While the information is useful to reshare - let's try to keep ourselves limited to more recent and active threads on similar topics.

Thanks! Wyv
