Slight technical issue with Morrowind.

Right. The game itself is running perfectly. I have only texture/visual enhancers as mods... better bodies, changing faces, etc... no slowdown, nothing. But every single time I'm supposed to fight something, the game freezes before or after combat.

If combat is initiated by me, I'll throw the first punch, it'll land, and BAM! Frozen. If I'm attacked, the battle music will fade in, I'll battle, but once it's over, BAM! Frozen.

I've taken out my plugins, and put them back in, to no avail...

And on a slightly unrelated note, the game always freezes when I try to load a new game- right when I click on the save I want.

Any and all help is appreciated, as always.

Very odd... never had an issue like that before. Only major issue I've ever had in any case is the CTD's that plague the game. Teaches you to save often though. Only thing I can think of is some files becoming corrupt, maybe needs a full delete and reinstall. That's just a guess though, and a month after the fact at that. Mayhaps you've fixed it already?

Yah, the only thing coming to mind at the moment is a corrupt file. Like stated, try fully deleting/uninstalling the game.

Upon re-install, add the mods one by one. There is a chance that a mod may be causing a glitch (or a combination of mods)

I know none of you guys will know me, I'm back after a very long absence from IW (for no particular reason other than life taking over!) but before I get onto the question in hand I just want to say Hi to anyone on here who recognises my name from years back

Anyway to get to the point - I have never had any such trouble with Morrowind, for me it's always been one of the easier-going games on my system, I used to play it on my old PC (which wouldn't run NWN2 or Fallout 3 for example) with no trouble at all. I would suggest a complete uninstall (including plugins) then re-install just the original game and play for a while to check it works OK before adding any plugins. Hope you can resolve it ok!

Thank you for all the responses- I swear, by now I've tried everything, and just gave up. Apparently, depending on your computer, this will happen to some vista users. Pity.

And true that, Melirune. Love Nightfall in Middle Earth.

Vista eh? I play it on Vista and have yet to encounter any problems...

Have you tried changing compatability mode/running as admin?

There is also a slight chance it could be your graphics card.

Nightfall In Middle Earth was great. I wish I could have seen that tour. Oh well, I got to see Blind Guardian a few years ago when they toured for A Twist In The Myth.

Well, as Kyrvias mentioned, computer configuration could have an impact. I haven't run into too many issues playing Morrowind. Just the CTD's which taught me the inestimable value of the quicksave key.

I have been thinking of reinstalling on my XP system after a 7 year haitus. Even though I don't have Vista your post issue is something for me to keep in mind Kyrvias.
