Is it possible to rescue Imoen and get out without completing the Asylum Dungeon (and go back later to complete it) or is the Asylum a one way ticket? I seem to have a lot of Chapter 1-3 quests still hanging and, since I plan on keeping Imoen, would like to have her along when I complete them - and then go back to the Asylum and the Chapter 4 quests. Can do? Yes? No?

First of all, put up a spoiler-tag in your post, or in the title. This is lucrative information.

Now, as you said, the Asylum is a one way ticket. I also find it quite boring, but it is liveable. Fortunetly, you can drop the Underwater City, though.

But you can finish those quests after Asylum.

You can do these quests later as well, although when you change the chaper without completing them, the Journal will be cleared of these and you just need to remember yourself, as to what you have to do. That's why you either do them all in C2, or try to get as little as possible of them in C2, get the cash, and save them for lateron.

I personally do not suggest to "skip" these - after all, these let you get some nice gear, cash, and most importantly - XP, which means levels. Which means stronger chars. And you WILL want stronger chars.

As for Asylum - that's the one way ticket. And why on earth would anyone want to skip Shark City?

Wrong.
Your journal makes a new page for every Chapter, but there are still buttons to go back and see hanging and finished quests from previous chapters.

Because some people get rather board outside of Athkatla; or have played so many times they only want to do those quests with replay value; ie. the ones that potentially change based on your class and race. The City-of-Caverns is almost completely walking around talking to different people, and the two fights that there are in there are that simple that you don`t need tactics based on your party.
