(I wanted to start a thread that would be useful to all with generic, newbie-type questions, so here it is. Hopefully others can post questions here on this message thread as well.)
And my questions are as follows: 1. I gather the maximum number of characters I can have in my party is 6... does that mean I have to be very careful about who I ask to join? How do you boot characters out of your party if you want another character to join? 2. Which profeciency applies to bows: "single-weapon style" or "two-handed weapon"? Neither? Both? (the bow is a single two-handed weapon...) Thanks! -lyberty |

Hey Lyberty...
In one of the character screens there's a button that say's reform party or something like that, press that to change your party members. There are no proficiency skills for bows, the 2 hand weapon skill is only for two handed swords and maybe staffs and such, not bows... sorry hehe ------------------ Yes indeed... |

Thanks for the response Bristowe.
So, do I have to do the "reform party" thing to kick someone out _before_ I talk to a new NPC for the first time (assuming my party is maxed out)? What happens if you force attack a party member in a single player game? (Can you even do that?) _lyberty [This message has been edited by lyberty (edited 05-07-2001).] |

You can "force attack" a memeber, but the party will probably leave you, and you will lose rep points, maybe alignment, and if you are a paladin or ranger, you will lose your status. "single-handed" and "two-handed" profs are for melee weapons only. ------------------ The RudeDawg Known in these Forgotten Realms as Perin LightEyes and my girlfriends, Pamila and Phil |

Nah, if you have a full party and talk to a character you want to join with then it'll go to the reform party screen immediately without you doing anything, and you can just pick and choose from there pretty much
Ha, usually if you attack your party members they will hit you back BUT since you technically still have control over them(they DON'T turn red)you can make them stop but you would still be attacking them, which isn't good unless you're wacko hehe j/k...If a npc ain't in your party and you attack them i dunno what happens cos i never done it before, i don't think you get XP for killing them however so it prolly not a good idea... cool? ------------------ Yes indeed... |

Okay, I've got another question (found below), and a tip.
When I started playing BGII, I was interested in the books in the library in the first dungeon. Did they provide needed background info for the rest of the game? Were they histories of the places and characters that I would be going to / interacting with? Do I have to copy all the info down if I don't want to (or can't) carry all these books out of the dungeon? (Call me detail oriented.) Well, no, as it turns out. Apparently, these are the same books that were in the library of Candlekeep (your home) in BGI. (which I haven't played, but that's what I gather from sources online). You can read these histories at your leisure online (at not have to waste game time): try http://www.caliph.net.au/~lord_lag/historys.html or http://www.cheadlea.freeserve.co.uk/...ery/index.html So here's my question: has anyone tried to sell one of these books in town? Is a set more valuable? What is a history worth? In a medieval society, books (histories) would be as valuable as gems, and collections (sets) are always more valuable... Did they incorporate this into the game? |

I haven't come across any valuable books in the game, but I haven't really been looking. There is a reason that I ignore books, purely a personal one, BUT...
When I first played BGI I thought the books must give important background information that you would need for the plot or info about how to solve quests. So I picked up EVERY DAMN BOOK I found, and stored them all in a barrel in Beregost. What a chump... I can't even LOOK at the books in BGII after that! ------------------ Time is an illusion. If you read the books, it is suppose to give you more lore. I haven't tested it but I'll do it with my skald, might be usefull.
