I myself am but indifferent honest. But I don't "cheat" playing games. Unless one considers looking at hints, maps, spoilers, walkthroughs and the like as cheating. But I don't use trainers and such at Diablo. (have you seen some of the things they do over there at Battlenet?!). I don't use god mode in Quake. I don't use the cheat console here.
However, I do use spoilers, maps, walkthroughs, and such. There are games that are just too hard for some. I do not consider myself to be one of these. But there are games I NEVER would have got through without such aids. Like Kings Quest 8, IWD perhaps, and whatever I can't think of. This is due to the nature of some of the puzzle and riddle situations more than game play, combat, finding items, and completing quests.
It is in the nature of ALL games that IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO CHEAT in order to successfully play and "win".
P.S. I HATE PKs.

I agree! No games are made that are impossible to play through without cheating..Although it's really tempting sometimes, for example right now; I'm totally stuck in IWD. Aaargh.

Cheating means different things to different people. I, myself, consider cheating to be looking ahead in the game via a hint book or help board/forum (no spoilers for me, thank you); however, I will "tweak" items or spells to suit my own personal tastes. Others think that anything outside "open the box, install game, play game" is cheating while still others have no limits.
You are both correct--there is no game so difficult that you cannot win/succeed without cheating. You might need patience, but not cheating.

@Catalina: where exactly, and with what, are you stuck?

i myself used to not cheat (cluaconsole) when i had the time to play long hours...... now my time is reduced to 30 min. here and there. There are certain cheat codes i don't use (anything god like mode, creating items that i have to find, or calling up extra people to help). Even with my cheating i still do loose char. in battle. I really don't have the time to create new games, go back and forth, etc.

I have played IWD, HOW, and TOTL 3 times now (with the cheat codes for healing) and have always enjoyed it. this time through I want to use HOF mode once complete the first time.

i guess "to each their own" when i comes to playing....

I guess we (cheaters) all have our own cheating scale. I make items for all of my party, only after I have found one. I make potions when they are not available to buy. I acknowledge I AM a cheater but I have my own code of ethics. We all have to decide on our own ethics.

I found a really dispicable tactic to use in IWD, and I'm surprised I haven't read about it anywhere yet. I discovered that I could summon animals or monsters, get close to a tough monster with my cloaked thief, tell the monsters to attack the target, and then run away with my thief. The summoned creatures will attack the target, and as long as you can't actually see the battle, the targets will just stand around and take damage! This tactic works for about 90% of the monsters - it gets a little monotonous toward the middle of the game, when skeletons take a 1/2 hour to kill a salamander, but once you get the fire elemental, you'll be rolling again. Is this cheating?

How about setting the game to give you full hit points every time you level up? Cheating? You be the judge!

Welcome, Cyric!

Your tactic isn't cheating, per se, simply taking advantage of weaknesses in the monsters' scripts. If you have HoW installed and you are playing in HoF mode, then summoning creatures to do your dirty work is the only way to fly!
