How about a real radical idea? Demystify the attraction and make it legal for everyone. Let individual parents decide when to introduce their children to alcohol.
When something is forbidden, immediatly raises it's currency in couriosity. The combination of saying to teenagers "You may vote and be considdered an adult at 18. You may also die for your country at 18. We will let you drive at 17, but we don't trust you to drink alcohol till 21" imediatly makes drinkng a priority to teens and early twenty-somethings.

Given the freedoms that the state currently enjoys under The Patriot Act, I suggest the following:
1) Revoke all liquor licenses for a 2000 mile radius as a preventative measure. 2) Have roving bands of Special Forces break down dorm-room doors of any room where laughter or music is heard. 3) Have K-9 squads roam the campus where the dogs are trained to rip out the throat of anyone with the smell of alcohol on them. 4) You can surround the campus with barbed wire and erect "freedom towers" with armed guards and searchlights to guard against alcoholic incursion. Or, you can simply realize that people in University are old enough to decide their own lifestyles. You can assert that a University is a place of learning for more than just scheduled courses in assigned lecture halls. You can assert that personal alcohol management is just another thing that adults must learn in life and that its best that they do so before they enter the workforce. You can also take a stand against people who would try to legislate morality and mask political agendas as 'homework assignments'. |
