No. The one time I did it, I Vanished a mantrap to right behind me. I then died.

It's only handy when stuff gets stuck:
 • Space cadet toad villager in second tunnel
 • Cretin dwarves in the narrower passages
 • Ship in sticky water near Talrik
 • Fat crabs in Collassium tunnels
In most cases, I'm all about just killing something stuck, but on occasion (the toad, a dwarf, &tc.) there can be good reason to keep the silly child alive.

However, the teleport spell and the create portal spell combined can be quite effective.

One can teleport monsters such as mantraps into bodies of water where they will eventually drown - when Mekdawa is teleported to the basement of the windmill he does not run that far, etc.

The only good mantrap is a dead mantrap... so since vanishing doesn't kill them, it's not a good idea. Unless vanishing them gives you time to recharge your mana and such... in that case, it may be the different between life and death.

BTW, the ones in the Boogre Caves were Jungle Lilies... first cousins to mantraps, and a whole lot meaner. I prefer to barbecue mine to a crisp from a distance with flamedrop and/or firestorm.

You've got lots of good information so far... hope the game goes well for you

I must respectfully disagree with the gentleman from Michigan. Dead mantraps are OK, for sure, but ...

... Stone mantraps are the best! You can play with them, move them around, stack them, and keep them in reserve for that time when you just need those XP to make next level ...

Nope: it'll be stoned permanently, or until you cast Stone to Flesh on it (but why would you do that?)

*edit* nasty spelling

dragon2005: perhaps you were just paralyzing them, not stoning them?

aleph_null1: "...and keep them in reserve for that time when you just need those XP to make next level ..."

Wow! never thought you cou;ld attack or ki;ll a stoned monster! I guess you mean that you "thaw" them out first?

Points to Aleph_null1! I do agree that stoned mantraps are infinitely useful. For a minute there, I even thought that Stackman had graced us with his presence

And Jon, you do have to thaw them out before you can get the XP. All that attacking stoned monsters gets you is damaged and broken weapons...

Unless.... they weren't stoned via the magical spell, but instead imbibed too much Boogre Brew, in which case they wouldn't be able to react very well, would they? I just wouldn't want to be the waiter for that table...
