I know, its no CRPG. But I still think it fits better on this board, then it does on the GD. The reason I'm posting this, is because I'd like some feedback from other people who played it.
Personally, I think Freespace I&2 beat every previous space shooter I played before (except maybe Wing CommanderIV). Its way better then most of the Wing Commander and Star Wars series (including my personal favourite: Tie Fighter).
Has anyone else tried this brilliant game? If you haven't, and are into the genre, then you should...

i haven't but would like to. the reviews were fantastic. I've beaten tie fight, played one of the wing commanders and beaten starlancer. Freelancer sounds cool should it ever come out but you don't actually fly which is my favorite part. Its proably my favorite sub-genre

Well, the story gets told during the missions (a bit liked Tie Fighter, but very opposed to Wing Commander). The story line is brilliant, and you'll never play the same mission twice.
Personally, I found StarLancer very dissapointing. Especially since it came from the genius behind the Wing Commander Saga. I have high hopes for Freelancer however... (btw, Angelousss, which Wing Commander game did you play?)

i enjoyed starlancer but the story was disappointing, most of the missions weren't that great, one particular one was though. the mission where you take their bomber.

Yeah, I remember that one. I got shot down like a dozen times after relaunching in a standard fighter. It still was one of the best missions though...

Best spaceshooters EVER. Sucks that you only get to fly the Shivan fighters in one or two missions.

The one that you get in #1, the Dragon, outclasses any Terran/Vasudan fighter.(As long as they fix the damn hyperdrive bug ) And the one that you get in #2 outclasses any #2 Terran/Vasudan fighter. Ten gun mounts and a medium amount of missiles, yeehaw! Gotta love that ship

Yeah, the Shivans are the ultimate badguys. Mysterieus 'till the end. My fav. mission is the part where you first encounter them. Can't get radar lock, can't get through their shield.. not to mention that creepy sound their ships make..
Love it

Question Mark

I had FS2 but that was quite a long time ago. I had played all the wing commander series and generally speaking the combat missions in FS2 are more realistic and challenging; not to mention better wingmen managment as well. Sadly the only use for my wingmen in WC is to issue "break and attack" and let them loose.

What WC lacks, they make it up with great storyline. Every character in WC is like an old friend to me. I just felt so sorry for Tolwyn when he hung himself in the cell (WC IV).

I was hoping to get my hands on the upcoming Freelancer. Hopefully it will be as fun as Privateer 1/2.

You're right. Freespace feels more realistic. In Wing Commander, its you and your Wingman against hundreds of hostiles. In Freespace, you are but a small part of a larger operation...
