would be a little box saying how many people are on-line on that particular forum. Then you would know whether to say around and chat rather than hanging in there on your own, waiting in hope of some response.
Another thing that would be good, maybe, is a LIST of who's on at the time. I've seen both these on other game boards.
Any opinions?

Fljottty, I think that Ziroc is already working on the 'who's on-line' stuff.

I usually keep 2 or 3 windows opened for the Board - one for the BG II forum, one for the GD forum and sometimes one for the Polls forum - which can be tricky when I am at work. However, as I keep these windows opened all day but come there only from time to time, I fear that the 'on-line' indication would say that I am here when in fact I am not.

That is the real problem I think Moiraine. Don't the "who's online" things work by showing anybody that is online even if they aren't in the forum. Like ICQ, you don't even have to be logged in to show that you are online. That could be a problem. I have a permanent connection at work and at home, so technically it would ALWAYS show me as online!

Maybe just something that indicates who has posted in the last 10 minutes or something. That would give a clearer indication of who is reading the boards.

I don't know if that is possible or not.

Yes, FB, but people can be here even if they don't post - catching up with all that had happened since their last visit, for a start. And you may want to say 'Hi' to them.
Besides, some new people that are still watching but not posting yet may not like to be seen as on-line, who knows ?

I think it would be a simple matter to set status. Ie like ICQ has "invisible" "busey" "DND" (do not disturb etc).

if (onlineUser.status == AVAILABLE)
ShowInList(onlineUser);
else return;

------------------

Nobody tells me what to do, not even me !
