Now I have to know this:

which one is faster,

Radeon 9600 OR GeForce FX 5600

Given the conditions that

they are both 128 DDR. What if the FX is 256 DDR and the radeon is 128 only?

If I had the option to buy FX 5600 256, would it be better than Radeon 9600 128?

Radeon is cheaper, but people say it's faster, is this true?

What about compatibility issues and such?

Please... need helP!

Look at the prise the most expensive one is the fastest as allways you get nothing free from Nvidia
And i would go for the Gforche card because Raedon cards have some compatible problems in som games it looks like.

not sure which is faster, haven't been arsed to look for benchmarks lately (google is your friend), however i can tell you that radeons offer better value for money. Also, there are several models of 9600 - plain, pro and XT, and some of these are clocked at different speeds, so display a little caution in buying. 256mb/128mb is almost totally irrelevant. More memory does all the card to perform better, but 256mb cards usually come with slower clocked memory as a trade off, so you are really no better off with a 256mb card.

Compatability issues are moot, radeons are now every bit as smooth running as nvidia cards, any issues in the past are now resolved. If there is an issue, ati have become very good at prompt, regular driver releases, so it's not a huge problem. Nvidia's drivers are also good, though i've heard some negative reports about them lately.

Thanks...

Well you have a good point about the 256/128 thing...

I am just comapring the ordinary ones... XT will be shipped to the store i will be buying the vid card tomorrow.. but then it's too expensive for me... I might be going for the PRO... but still it's no go for me actually...

Yes Radeon is getting more good publicity lately... and I am leaning on buying the Radeon... but then I would want more opinions on it since I have been nVidia all my life.

I have seen the comparisons... and my oh my, the XT really kicks arse...

A few of my friends who are into this sorta thing told me that in comparison of speed...the NVidia is faster, but the Radeon has a prettier picture. I was also told that the NVidia has a more sturdy cooling fan. This is a comparison only for the two specific models you mentioned.

Power is probably the least important aspect of a video card. A stable and compatable card will give you far less grief than a card that runs 10% faster on what few games it likes. This is why I always go for Nvidia products. There was a time when I (briefly) defected to ATI (you can look for the posts if your really bored) but that was only because Nvdia screwed the early versions of the GeforceFX. Try playing NWN on a radeon. Sure, it works, but wheres the shiny water?
