The latest FIFA world rankings have just been announced.

■1 Brazil (Naturally)
■2 France (Yep)
■3 Spain (okay)
■4 Germany (Yeah)
■5 Argentina (of course)
■6 Mexico (I suppose so)
■7 Turkey (Mmmmmm)
■8 United States (Yeah - no wait a minute, that can't be right can it?)
■9 England
■10 Italy

USA ranked above England at football, did I fall asleep for 20 years or sumfink? Have I entered the Twilight Zone or a parallel universe? Has the whole world gone completely mad? We invented the bloody game in it's present form, why didn't we take a leaf out of the Americans book and make it a world championship that no other country can enter?

Reality is returned when I notice that languishing in 43rd place just below Trinidad and Tobago are the mighty Australians. And who is that in 63rd spot below such giants of the game as Ghana and Angola. No, it can't be, surely not, do my eyes deceive me - it is!, it's Scotland!

Forty bloody third - who the hell came up with such a whacked out set of rankings? It's a blimmin JOKE!!!

Why is South Korea not rated above England? How come the French managed to hold onto the 2nd ranking? Where are the Dutch? How come Eng-er-land made the top 10? Why aren't the America's ranked higher - they excel at playing away - just ask Iraq?

For the FIFA rankings, all matches count. So while the US is pulverizing all kinds of small countries from the American continent (Oh, I don't know, Honduras, Jamaica and San Salvador and all ), the higher ranked European teams are spilling points against eachother. I think the US gets more points out of a 4-0 victory over Honduras in a friendly match than England will get out of a 1-0 victory over France in an official qualification match; the system is really screwy, either way. And the US is known to play almost double the number of matches the average European teams do... So it's not that strange that they're in the Top 10. But it has never really been a very accurate list...

Yo peeps, im at college bored in an It lesson but I couldnt resist posting when it comes to football!!
As I see it our England squad hasnt settled in yet, with a lot of new players in and a lot of testing by Sven its only natural the team needs a while to get used to each others playing syles, as I see it a few more matches and it should be settled and we'll be back on track.
Tho in the World Cup USA did do suprisingly well in my eyes they cant be seriously ranked above England, I know officially that thye ARE ranked higher at the mo, no disrespect to the American side! you's did play a decent tournament, a excellent one in fact
The teachers coming round to check peoples work so ta-ta for now, i'll be-a-posting when I get back home (or another thread if I can muster the time in this lesson)

That is true, the fifa world ranking system is warped and doesn't mean sh*t! Do you really believe that the USA has what it takes to deafeat the likes of England or Italy!?

It also explains the high rank of Mexico... It's been decades since they really got far in the World Championships. But they're still on number 6, while even the tenth best team from Europe should be able to beat them... Oh well.

I deliberately titled the thread USA?????????? so that there was no clue to what it was about. I hoped that people would find my paranthetical comments humorous as they read down the list until they got to the US being above England.

But I guess you are talking about the deletion of the post which folloed my original one

This is madness! The US team played suprisingly well in World Cup 2002 but not even close to getting 8-th rank!
