How do you climb down stairs?

I am in the Toad Village and cannot figure out how to climb down the stairs?

I try to take a walking jump at them and catch them as I fall..Sometimes it works...most times.... splatt

But you can fall on to the ladder! Stand near the wall with the ladder in front of you (slighty to the left or right). Then run over the ledge towards the ladder. You´ll then "land" on it a few pins above ground and climb the final part. No fall damage at all...

You can actually climb down ladders. Check the (you guessed it!) best tips thread for details.

Basically, by looking at the sky or the ground, you back slowly onto the ladder and then you will go down it. Personally, I found it one of the biggest pains in the asterisk in the game. At higher levels, I'd just jump -- one or two points of damage after Ishad N'ha generally doesn't matter...

I tried everything what I found and saw that I have about 5% chance to suceed with climbing down. Perhaps, I am too clumsy. Thus, I climb down the following way: "BUM! UAAAAA!! Xxx takes 2 points of falling damage". This always works.

If anyone has EVER climbed down ladders throughout the game good for you. It's not the going down as the going UP! Those ladders are about as bad as the Lillies. Jumping is the best though. GOOD LUCK!

I also have more trouble going up ladders then down them. The game just loves to turn me away as I approach some ladders. Going down is easier, I haven't found one that takes off more than a couple of hit points when I jump down it.
