In my current HoF game my half-elven cleric/ranger has an AC cap of -25, while my dwarven fighter/cleric an AC cap of -24.
Does anyone know what the AC cap depends on and whether it is real or just apparent (i.e the AC is displayed as -25 while in reality it is -29 as it's supposed to be)?

No clue. -25 AC even on HoF is good enough against most opponents. Out of curiosity, what are they wearing to get such good AC? Is this after a Defensive Harmony buff?

Potion of Defence sets AC to 0
and then: DEX 24 (base 18 +3 from potion of mind focusing + 3 from draw upon holy might) =-6 Reinforced large shield +2 =-3 Mithran's Cloak =-3 Blessed Helmet of Lathander =-2 Black Wolf Talisman =-1 Blur (permanent from Sash of simmering) =-3 Bard song War Chant of Sith =-2 Protection from evil 10' radius =-2 Defensive Harmony =-4 Entropy Shield =-6 Total = -32 As you see not too difficult to obtain. (armor bonus does not stack with potion of defense) Had he been a paladin (to have both cleric spells and Axe +2 defender) he'd have made it -34, as he is cleric/ranger he can't wield the axe. Right now without any temporary buffs, with a plate mail (AC 3) and bard song he has -15 AC. And yes I thought such AC to be good enough till I met the bronze sentries which atack you just before you exit upper Dorn's deep into glacier. they shredded my party to pieces.

It is actually possible to push it even lower, especially with a Paladin, but I have forgotten what my lowest ever AC was.
Also, did you debuff the BSentries? I do not recall facing much difficulty from them, even on HoF. |

Just remembered: let's not forget you can have 4 more singing bards . So an AC better than -40 is easily attainable. Quote:
is the cap real? what about specific AC vs type of weapon (slashing, bludgegoing...) is that capped along too?

Resistances vs Slashing, piercing and the like don't have a cap.
They can make it to 100% and beyond... best of all, I'm not sure with physical resistances, if you can get over 100% resistance to fire, fire damage will actually *heal* you. Pretty danady |

If I have AC capped at -25 does it mean specific damage type AC are capped too? [ 08-18-2006, 07:20 PM: Message edited by: ZFR ]

Resistances do have a cap.
127% is the maximum. |

I can confirm that if a character has resistance to a damage type that totals over 100%, that character will heal some HP if hit by a weapon of that damage type. Of course, the character is also completely immune to damage of that type. 100% or better slashing resistance is extremely (and I mean extremely) useful against spectral guards.
