I used to play W-W on windows ME and it worked fine. I recently downloaded the game on XP and I am having difficulty. I cannot access the town hall or magic shop. Is this an XP thing?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Grolim

Welcome to the boards, grolim May life in the Gael Serran provide the spark that real life so often needs.

There are some definite issues with running on XP. If you check out the Tech Tips thread at the top of the page, you'll find them in there, along with instructions for taking care of them. The town hall/magic ship issue, for example, is resolved by decompressing the video files.

Give that all a shot and let us know how it goes!

If you install W&W on XP, shouldn't it be better because of the graphics and such?

Hey ppls,

wow i haven't been on in a while but i know the answer to this one.

There is a problem with the video files. You need to get a program called VirtualDub! You then go into the wizards and warriors folder and then the "TOWNAVI" folder and open all the files with virtual dub. You save them in a temporary folder under the same name. Delete the old file and replace it with the new one. I recommend you back up this folder incase it all goes to hell!!!!.

I hope this fixes it.

Welcome Grolim.
I use XP & just follow the instructions in "tech tips". Make sure you make a full copy of the townavi folder before you use the virtual dub thing.
I usually copy onto my desktop then work from there.
I now keep a copy of the new townavi folder in my backups. I probably use my backups more than most people because I stuff around with my PC too much & have to reformat a lot.
This is a great game & worth the effort.
