Real celebs mind, nae Chantelles

So today walking to work, who do myself and Leana walk into? none other than Mike Mcshane aka Friar Tuck from Robin Hood Prince of Theives and (UK) Whose Line Is It Anyway fame, it made my day the guy is a class act

So what celebs have you guys had run ins with of late? Anyone awesome? or the D-listers doing the clubland circuit?

Not of late, but I've seen:

Bono - I was standing next to him at the urinals at Goodbar (club in Sydney) back in the mid 90s when U2 toured OZ
Keifer Sutherland - saw him getting kicked out of QBar in Sydney for making a scene (he was filming Dark City I think)
Keanu Reeves - saw him out clubbing a few times in Sydney when he was filming Matrix
Claire Danes - in the hallway of the apartment complex that my sister's American friends were living in at Bondi in early 2001 or 2002 (she had an apartment opposite theirs)
Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) - actually hung out with her at a club called Kinseles waay before she was famous, she was just a soapie star in OZ at the time (late 90s)
Maurice Greene - crashed his Olympic after-party at Establishment in Sydney in 2000 and got to shake his hand (as my friend worked for Justin Hemmes, the owner of Establishment
Portia De Rossi, Joel Edgerton and Dennis Hopper in 2002, when they filmed a tiny bit of the film The Night They Called It A Day in our apartment (I posted about this [url=http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=012639#000000]in Gen Con way back in 2002[/quote]. I didn't actually get to meet Dennis Hopper but I did get to shake Portia de Rossi and Joel Edgerton's hands.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman going out to dinner at Hotel CBD back in the late 90s.

That's about all I can remember for now. I don't go out clubbing as much these days, which is why I don't really see too many celebs anymore. I've been in LA for nearly six weeks and still haven't seen a single one!

What happened was that one of the busboys took his bourbon (or scotch or whatever) when it still had a bit in it. He blew his stack at the bloke and as a result the bouncers were called to escort him away. I remember him saying "do you know who I am?" and the bouncer said "yes Mr Sutherland, but we're still kicking you out."

I saw Irish comedian Jimoen (sp?) dancing up a storm at The Church nightclub in Northbridge about 5 years ago. He had his own section of the floor and the whole crowd was cheering him on, so i'm pretty sure i didn't imgine it. [img]graemlins/1ponder.gif[/img]

I've seen a few sports people outside of their native sports arena habitats. I saw a Brisbane Lions player Mal Michael driving (it was near their home ground but it was like a Monday morning so it totally counts). I saw swimmer Geoff Huegill in the city at a food court. And I saw former rugby league player Trevor Gilmeister (the Axe

) crossing the road with his daughter near a shopping centre. Yes I have led an exciting life [img]smile.gif[/img]

I'm still rather young so I haven't met/run into/seen in person a lot of celebrities.
So far I've seen/spoken to:

**Band members of Thirsty Merc - Went to one of their concerts (in 2005) and ended up lining up for their autographs
**Band members of Frenzal Rhomb - Went to one of their concerts (in 2003) and got their autographs... can't remember what happened to the bit of paper with their autographs on it though
**Band members of Human Nature - In the local shopping center doing a charity cooking thing (in 2002)
**Cathy Freeman - Looking at pets in a pet shop... she had a nice crowd following her (in 1998)

And I think that's it.

I once had the pleasure to run into Magic Johnson, who was at that time touring through Europe with a team of former NBA stars. He and two other guys were walking downtown and seemed a bit lost. I walked by and said "Hi Mr.Johnson, how are you doing" and he said he wasn't used to people calling him "Mr. Johnson", they usually called him Magic.

Then he asked if i knew a decent Italian restaurant in the vicinity and i escorted them to one. He asked if i was going to see the game the next day, of which i had no plans of visiting, but after this i couldn't resist. It's great to watch him play basketball, but it's even better to chat with the guy for a bit.

I'm not going to mention all the famous footballplayers i've run into over the years in clubs and bars, because i also got to see them play in the stadiums on a regular basis, but one encounter was kinda special. It was the time me and my friends bumped into Romario in one of the local nightclubs. I knew he was small, but when i was standing next to him he almost seemed like a dwarf. I shook his hand and it felt cold and tiny, like he just got out of a freezer or something, and he was accompanied by a blond chick who was almost twice his size.

Funny how celebs always try to take control over the situation with the "do you know who i am" act, as if that's an excuse for being an asshole and you're no longer welcome in an establishment.

That prompts the requisite "do you know who I am" joke...

It was the Christmas Eve, and the holiday season was in full tilt. On top of that, several flights had been canceled or delayed, so the backup of passengers was almost unbearable.

At one of the flight terminals, where the agents had been working 12 hours straight, an incredibly long line of disgruntled passengers waited to board their plane.

A man in a grey silk suit, with a fresh, tidy way about him and a flushed, angry face, stomped all the way to the front of the line and handed his ticket to the agent, as though no one else was there.

The agent pushed the ticket to the side just slightly, and, without acknowledging the man, continued to accept the next passengers in line.

"I have got to get on that plane, right now," the man said in a concescending, authoritarian voice, and pushed the ticket back.

"Sir, you will have to wait your turn," The agent pushed his ticket back toward him and continued processing the other passengers.

"I TOLD you, I must get on that plane. Give me a ticket already!" The man was getting irate.

"Sir, if you will please step back in line--" The ticket agent was accepting the next passenger's ticket and motioning the man impatiently to the end of the line.

"DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM???" The man's face had ballooned up with rage.

The agent looked at the man calmly, then picked up the intercom receiver.

The attendant stared at the man for a moment, then leaned into her intercom microphone. "Ladies and Gentleman, may I have your attention please? We have a lost man at gate A14 who does not know who he is. If anyone here knows who he is, please come to gate A14."

The man looked at her and snarled "F*** you!"

The attendant smiled back and said, "You'll have to stand in line for that, too."

In following the thread, I ran into Earl Klugh (jazz guitarist) at a club in Detroit... when I sat in with the band, they then called him up to play as well.

He was a lot better than me...
