I'd like to get some input on some games similar to Wizards and Warriors; I've played 2 from the Wizardry series, and I really enjoyed them (I've heard things about a Wizardry 8 coming out soon, too). A lot of the other games out there that I hear a lot of people talk about (for example, Baldur's Gate and Asheron's Call) I've never played. Tell me what you think about these (or any) other games, and compare them to W+W. Thanks!

For me the closest ones to Wizardry is the Might+Magic series (recommedable from 6 - 8). Similar spells and fights, but more user-friendly than W+W. Check it out, if you haven´t.

Oh, and by the way... The game doesn't have to be of the RPG Genre... Feel free to tell me about ANY game you've played that you really enjoyed.

I've seen the Might and Magic series on shelves in Babbage's and places like that, it just never really caught my attention. I usually try to spend no more than $30 on a game, and that's if I REALLY want it (I know, I'm cheap). The whole thing that sold me on W+W was that D.W. Bradley, who worked on some of the Wizardry series, helped create it. Keep 'em coming...

What were the features of W&W you liked best? If it was character development and storyline, then I would recommend Planescape:Torment. The storyline is really dark, the scenery looks like it was designed by Gaudi on crack, your character is horribly scarred and tattooed, but it is the most satisfying game I've played. Since it's now an older Black Isle title, it's pretty cheap.

Also great for character development were Fallout 1&2; I think these can be bought as a boxed set now for practically peanuts. Fallout gets you out of the quasi-medieval dungeons and into the wastelands of post-apocolyptic California. Weapons are things like Colt 45s, Magnum Desert Eagles and machine guns. They're pretty much adult games - sex, drugs and great big guns! Great voice cast, too.

P:T and Fallout 1&2 are 3/4 isometric view, not first person like W&W; I actually prefer that. I would just loved to have actually *seen* my pixie ninja in action!

In Europe you should get Might+Magic 1-6 and 7 each for around 20$. If you like W+W, they should be worth a buy.

As a great M+M fan, I found W+W to be an acceptable substitute. The two games
are very similar in the ability to do turn-based combat and in the first-
person view while having a party. Also similar in terms of quests, leveling
and skill improvement. The earlier M+M (3-5) are primitive in terms of
graphics but (imho) have a much better plot than the later ones.

I really dislike the isometric view games because I have no clear visualization
of where I am with respect to my enemies. I almost got into Icewind Dale, and
then ran into a situation where I simply could not keep my characters under
control. *sigh*
