I still don't agree that it's cheating. It's breaking the rules and face the concequences. Nobody here would have made an issue out of this if that Ghanese player would have made that penalty, but the idiot missed a golden opportunity to shoot Ghana into the semi's, well...sorry you had your shot, you missed it, so byebye. There's many examples of players that influenced the outcome of a game by using their hands, and none of them were ever seriously punished for it, even though there was footage to back up the case against them. Ask the English and the Irish, i'm sure they have lots to tell ya about that. To make a long story short...players have and always WILL use their hands if it improves their chances of winning a game, and by not getting seriously punished for it, FIFA only stimulates this type of behaviour.

Re: World cup
Suarez is being arrogant and a jerk about it though...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...10/8785140.stm I mean proud of breaking a rule? What kind of message does that send? And FIFA are ridiculous to ban him for just one match.

Re: World cup
You're mistaken if you think he's being banned because of a hand ball in the penalty box. Or because of a hand ball on the goal line to prevent a certain goal.
He's being banned for one game because he got a red card. That's the standard penalty for getting a red... out the next game. Apparently the rules committee may be considering extending his ban for a second game. But that's for "sportsmanship". Up to them. It is *NO* different from deliberately committing a foul in any other game, knowing that you'll have to accept the penalties that come with it. Hooking a guy on a hockey breakaway, deliberately fouling someone in the last minutes of a basketball game, pitchers throwing at batters in baseball... I'm sure the list of sports and gamesmanship goes on. You can't change the rules retroactively.

Re: World cup
Straight red card automatically brings a one match ban and goes to disciplinary committee, which decides whether to extend it or not. FIFA decided not to extend his ban because they did not consider it unsportsmanlike...
I'm not criticising Suarez for committing the foul. He did what he had to do...but the rules are seriously messed up if breaking them is a better thing than following them...penalties aren't harsh enough by far. At least the ref saw things this time and did what he had to.
