All I wanna know is how to climb down a ladder. I've been trying to figure it out for the longest time. I've beaten the game, I'm at about level 25 with all of my characters (with two exceptions, a level 20 Valkyrie and a 34th level Barbarian) and I STILL haven't figured a out a way down ladders besides falling and hearing a horrible SPLAT noise. Can anyone help me here or is everybody else having the same problem? Help would be much appreciated.

Hmmm...the best way to climb down a ladder? That would be....to close your eyes and JUMP!
I have been successful a time or two climbing down ladders, but usually, I get so impatient and frustrated that I end up jumping. If you pick up a trait called Deadfall, you'll take less falling damage. (Apparently the creators of the game realized how insanely difficult descending a ladder is in W&W and decided to take mercy upon us, the poor, frustrated, bruised and battered gamers.)
If I remember correctly, when I actually did succeed in climbing down a ladder, I turned my back to the ladder and slowly...and boy, do I mean slowly, used the down arrow key to back up. I made sure the ladder was centered perfectly in the screen, and I was facing the far wall squarely, not angled at all (if that makes sense). Eventually, by pushing the down arrow, I climbed down the ladder. That only happened once or twice, and then I just decided my sanity was worth more to me than saving the few hit points that falling damage would inflict!

So there IS a way to climb down ladders... Well, it sounds rather difficult to do so I think I'll just keep jumping.

This is the best way:

-Approach the ladder
-Turn your back on it
-************Look down at an angle, step back, START FALLING and then go forward to "cling" on the ladder in mid-air************
-Ride it down now (look down and go forward)

not a stupid question...
I back up until I'm atop of the ladder, Look up until your vision is on the center of the ceiling or sky, and start 'walking backwards'

Not a stupid question at all!
I use the old "jump" - "splat" - "walk around and heal" method myself.
It is the simplest way.

Actually, the only places you need worry with ladders are:

Toad Village
Harespia's Cottage
Kerielle's Millhouse
Dragonspire
Skull Castle

Of these, the only ones that really give a problem are the ones in Toad Village, as the Dragonspire and Skull Castle ones are used for going up rather than down (for the most part, unless you're REALLY doing something unusual!)
