I don't think people will go thru the same detox symtoms with an addiction to gameling or games that they do for drugs. They do have physical signes of withdrawl however.

I can't blame the game addicts. The real world is a frightening and confusing place where people starve to death. It's much better to build a smaller world around you than face the cold, hard reality. Whether someone chooses to do this with WoW, alcohol, soma or simply self-delusion is their own businnes.

Can gaming addict be cured of the addiction? Kinda hard, there need to be a substitute for the person to do or else he'll be suck right back into gaming. I know some people said they quitted WoW but sometimes later plunged right into it.

They are having success with 12 step groups and behavior modification. There is no cure for true addiction however weather it be gaming or any other form, it is a constant struggle the rest of their lives.

I know a lot of people who went to AA to stop drinking, never smoked in there whole life, and now they are a pack a day smokers. They don't drink any more. So yes sometimes you trade on addiction for the other.

I don't think gaming addictions are that bad to be honest, unless in extreme circumestances (e.g. the ones LZ mentioned).

I know a lot of people who are verging on alcoholics, gamblers etc. These are far worse addictions as they have the ability to get you in debt and in depressive states.

Be thankful they aren't hooked on something that someone cooked up in a chemistry set (METH, NASTY STUFF) with batteries, caugh syrup, and fertilizer...

Ah Pong, the memories...Followed swiftly by a strange little box, with a plumber that lived inside...

Edit: This just occured to me; Why is it called Mario Brothers? Is their last name Mario? So it's Mario Mario, and Luigi Mario?

Which is the worst thing about gaming addictions. Time spent on games often means time not at work, which leads to debt. Problems in real life mount, which due to gaming are not being solved, and so make escapism more attractive, thus leading to more unsolved problems like more debt or failing relationships, which leads to more escapism, which leads to more problems... and so on. DOWNWARD SPIRAL.
