I do not know if these have been mentioned here before, but I thought it was worth bringing to the table today.

Two free Virus Scanners online. They take a while, (not as fast as Spybot), but one of them actually found a Trojan on my PC and cleaned it for me, where no other program had hitherto found.

I would suggest you use both of them, and not just one or the other.

I'll give them a try. I'm using Adaware right now, and Norton Anti-Virus, and that combo seems to catch just about everything. But you never know...

By the way, some people have had trouble getting the Smart Search adware erased from their machines, as it can be detected but not removed by any of our usual removal tools.

Here is a registry editing guide to remove it if you happen to suffer this. Please let me know if it does or does not work. Also, I have inlcuded a forum thread from another website I found on Google that talks about the same thing.
