To tell you the truth I don't even really want to think about it, I'm still trying to figure out how we all got here, how the first human was born, where planets came from, how galaxies are spreaded out so far away and if there is life out there, why haven't they came to us yet?

Any answer to this is just naïve. How can anyone possibly know the answer to such a question?

Maybe you're right Black Dragon, we shouldn't think about it. But i guess thats what faith is. Everyone puts their faith in something, even if it is only that the sun will come up in the morning.
Arledrian faith is the answer to your question, their is nothing naive about faith.

Of course they're naive, that's why we only have opinions on the subject, we and no solid facts.
Personally, call me nihilistic if you will, but saying that that happening would be pointless is wrong in my opinion Neb.
If you look at it from many different ways it is not pointless.
Looking from the big picture, our lives ending for good is not pointless, because we live to prolong the human race.

I really don't understand how people can believe this without being horribly depressed by it.... Imagine.... Just forever without feeling anything ever again.... Without even thinking.....

The ultimate ignorance lies in not asking a question. The answer you seek may never be found, but the act of searching often reveals many other things. Merely discounting everything doesn't lead to any conclusion, save to further insulate your mind from learning. The greatest foolishness is to believe in your own wisdom.

If there is some higher power, then living by it's tenets is important, if there is none, then living by your own is even moreso. In either case, the act of searching and learning is the only path to understanding.

Thinking about the afterlife is, for the most part, pointless. There is no way to know what will or will not happen, so why worry about it? The only thing that matters is what you do here and now. Are you making your life and the lives of those around you better? Yes, thoughts of Heaven comfort many people; however, we are here so let our thoughts be here. There will be as many views of the afterlife as there are people in the world....

Anyone heard of Ian Stevenson? He's a professor of psychology at Virginia University who has done quite a bit of research on reincarnation.

Oh, and if I could have a choice as to what I'd like to be reborn as after death, I think I'd choose to be a tall, handsome barbarian.

quote:
Actually I would think that it'd make a good reason to NOT be Nihilistic and just do whatever you want, think of noone else, after all, once you die it won't matter to you at all and you won't be held responsible.

That's the approach adopted by Jean-Paul Sartre, actually: "Once God is dead everything is permitted."

quote:
Why do you think people like to believe in reincarnation or a after life? I've heard some people say that it is cause we are so afraid of dying that we invent something that takes the edge off the fear, does anyone agree with that? I tend not to

Many like to dismiss something just because it looks like 'wishful thinking'. But as someone has pointed out, just because something is 'wishful thinking' doesn't make it false.

Arledrian faith is the answer to your question, their is nothing naive about faith.

Is the word faith or... intuition? (I'm not dismissing intuition.)

The only problem with this is that the human race itself will end someday, too...

Can't agree more!

Got a lot more to say, but I'll leave it 'til later...
