I was soloing a sorc a while back, and wanted to get me a nice shiny staff.
So I decided to attempt the Twisted Rune, and descended. I grabbed a Protection from Magic scroll, read it, and commenced battle. I kept getting killed, even though I was protected, and it wasn't from the vampire or thief, who i cloudkilled (wand) to death. It was from the named beholder who kept Death-raying me! Now I thought PfM scrolls protected against this type of thing! Or are spells like Death Ray, Kangaxx's Imprisonment, etc. able to get through a PfM barrier?

that happened to me too i guess either death magic doesnt count or his antimagic ray works a little too well and takes away your prot from magic either way its a little shady, but then again one scroll and an improved mantle shouldnt make you immune to dying

Same thing happened to me, and after it occuring twice, I said "Why am I bothering with this?" and threw a Planetar into the room... That pretty much solved my problem... But umm if you are soloing without ToB, I would suggest... Bah, I can't think of anything... Laying more cloudkills should nuke him before he gets to it, as he was at Badly Injured before he did it to me.
