i was wondering what's best to level paladin x / fighter 4...
at the moment i'm paladin 3 / fighter 2, and i wondered should i take another paladin now or should next two levels be in fighter (so i'll be fighter 4 very fast - i'm at the beggining of chapter 2 now)? i've read here that good practice is to take fighter level every 2 levels of paladin - is there significant difference between this to ways? and speaking of paladin, should i specialise him in another weapon (first one is large sword), and my other tanks have axes, great swords and maces), or should i invest those 2 feats into something else (does extra smiting makes any sense - i've read both pro and contra for this...) thanks [ 01-09-2006, 06:19 PM: Message edited by: Gorluk ] |

For your first question, there really is no noticeable difference on how you do the first few levels of paladin. I think I'd go now to fighter4 for weapon specialization, then continue on with paladin. However, there really is no significant difference. Make your choice depending on if you want more feats or more spells early on.
For your second questio, I wouldn't get a second weapon focused (+1 to hit isn't worth a feat IMO) unless you really have nothing to do, or if you intend on getting two weapons specialized for Maximized Attacks. I rarely use smite, so I woulnd't take extras. Grab the good combat feats such as power attack, cleave, finesse if applicable, dirty fighting, improved critical, fiendslayer, etc. Good luck with your paladin! |

thanks for your answer...
i already have cleave and power attack, and i was thinking of second specialization because of max. attacks, but i'm not sure is it worth it (3 feats)..well, i'll see |

I'd go for a 2nd point in some blunt weapon simply to have the skill in a blunt alternative. However, a 3rd point is really a matter of taste. But if you do choose to do it, take a 3rd point in your favorite blunt weapon type.
Not a bad idea to have some skill in a ranged weapon. And Rapid Shot's a decent option (as long as your ranged weapon of choice isn't a crossbow). Like Marty says, I'd look to take other supporting Feats first. I like Heretic's Bane and Fiendslayer for a pally. Improved Critical is a must have, IMHO. I don't really care much for Cleave (or Greater Cleave) or Dirty Fighting, but that's strictly personal preference. I'd rather spend the feat points on weapons or Iron Will, Lightning Reflexes, or Great Fortitude (although for a Pally with a high CHA, any of these 3 are not all that necessary). Or even Strong Back (an additional 50% to carrying capacity never seems to go to waste). I like taking Dash (extra footspeed is always a good thing) and Dodge (if you have a DEX 13+). |
