It is something to hope for. It is not without precedent.
Did you expect the Soviet Union to turn democratic over night in the early 1980s?

Knightscape, you should come and visit China and see how different it is here.

Chinese people thriving under democracy in a foreign country is one thing. Having China as a whole democracy is another.

You have well established law and polical system, "perfected" over the decades. You have a culture adapted to democracy. Our culture know nothing of freedom. To give it sudden 100% freedom after 5000 years of cage is scary. We should do it slowly.

It's like heating up a frozen person or Jurassic Park. Yes there is much less political and social freedom in China, but we have so much better economic freedom.

I don't ***** moan about the things here being too expeinsive. Because that's the way they are balanced. If I want to say something, I come here. If I want to buy something I go back there.

China is much better now. You can say what you like, as you don't make a scene of it. So saying Chinese government is crap quite loud in a restaurant is alright if you don't start a mass rally. This is still very restricted but private personal protests are allowed

I do beg to differ one point on Soveringty (sp?) though.

I do not think America would let California go if it wanted to be independent. Do you???

Would Canada let half of its territory go if it wanted to join USA for some reason?

No country wants that

We build schools and railways to assimilate and transport troops and you build them for education and public transport.
heehee
sounds very Sci-Fi to me... but I guess this is an issue true else where.
There is a great deal of complaint that Welsh schools do not teach Welsh anymore and have wiped out their language and culture.

I guess governments (all of them) want unification and everyone to co-operate with its ideals and aims.

I mean c'mon, fundamentally all governments want everyone to shut up and listen to them

The constitutions here are very solid of political freedom, whereas they are not in China.

Do you actually think governments love protestors?

I can't even stand them, let alone governments.

Anyway... enough rambling. I just think Knighscape should travel more around the world and see how different countries are so ... well different.

It's simply beyond imagination. Like they say: It's not about new landscapes but It opens another eye

The people who come abroad from China tend to be creme de la creme or illegal immigrants.

creme de la cremeof any society will flourish anywhere.

Illegal immigrants live on your infrastructure. They don't pay tax and enjoy public services sub. by you.

So don't say Chinese people here live well under democracy, there for so should everyone!

that is simply absurd to say the least.

Democracy is a wonderful system that is reducess human flaws to a minimum (greed, tyranny, selfishness, extremists)

But if you want to change the largest and one of the oldest countries over night when it took small islands decades... is simply not possible.

If Taiwan and USA can mess votes up, if UK doesn't vote, if Russia can fall into anarchy in many places, what will China turn into?

I think a slow tranformation that doesn't shock our fragile economy is the best.
One day it will happen, we've waited 5000 years, so a few more makes little difference.

Farmers are so poor in China now that giving them a vote every 5 years won't feed them. Let's get economics right and then transform into a democracy.

Hey sorry for assuming everyone can just travel around as they please

If you can't travel, then talk to foreign people.

I find that their logic is SO different in many ways...

Applying our own senses is a bit silly when we are all so different!
