As I understand it, Thanksgiving is a celebration of the Pilgrims who first fled England (Destination Holland) to escape persecution and then left Holland for the US to escape the 'dangerous and frivilous' ideology of the Dutch. Finally, they land in the New World and say to each other "Bloody Hell - Finally we're free of those stuffy english and those wacky Dutch - lets party!!!"
