I don't know about other non-Americans, but I picked up all those *fancy* words from American movies. (no pun intended)

Well, I simply go with the principle of common courtesy, like my mama taught me. And that means taking a little care not to offend other people. Whether or not I find cussing offensive is irrelevant, what matters is whether it offends someone who's liable to hear me, or read my posts. So I'm pleased to see that Ziroc and the mods are taking that kind of a stand on this issue.

[wcip]Angel, if you read the rules, you would KNOW the answer to the cussing issue. Below is the rule on cussing:

------------
Be Clean: Adhere to decency and refrain from abusive or hateful language, while cussing isn't censored, please don't direct the words towards someone in a hateful or demeaning way. Also, Cussing 'just to be cussing' will land you with an account suspension if it becomes too much. Also, don't put an expletive in the title of your post. It (and your account) will be deleted.

While in a debate, or have a difference of opinion, please do not take it as an attack. We will close accounts of people that attack others, be it in a subtitle way, or a deliberate loud way.
-----------

It pretty much means "The casual cuss word is OK, but if nearly every single post you make has a cuss word in it, your account will be locked out, and IP banned.

Admin: Did you read my reply? If you did, then I can't see why you insist on "throwing the book at me", as I stated, it was merely a hypthetical question seeing as the rules don't mention asterix (btw, how do you conjugate the asterix into a plural? "asterix'"?

sorry if I spoke out of line.

The automatic substitution of words is a good feature, but can sometimes confuse otherwise understandable posts.

I was reading a forum on Hockey (Toronto Maple Leafs to be precise), and in the discussion someone mentioned the Dallas Stars coach who had just been fired: Ken Hitchcock

The forum profanity prevention code mangled his name into Ken Hitchcucumber

The English word is "asterisk". And the plural is "asterisks".

I personally have no objection to asterisks. I just find them, and profanity in general, totally boring, and would prefer reading a post by someone who can communicate without using language that may be offensive to some.

I read somewhere about a close captioning feature they were developing for television that would allow a parent to block any objectionable words even in the cc mode. They were encountering some problems, however. Seems that the classic 60's TV show "The Dick Van Dyke Show" kept being rendered as "The Jerk Van Gay Show".

I think what ziroc is means is that.
Yeah go ahead and cuss every once in a while if you really feel you need to, but be prepared to have all the folks who find it offensive to get on your "arse" for having such a "potty mouth".

Also if your vocab consists of using swear words exclusively, your "buttocks" will be banned.

So just dont cuss damnit!!!!!!!

Or i could be wrong.

Look at this, I go away for a few days and the world turns to hell.

Ok my opinion on this subject (not that it really matters since I'm new and all) is this:

cuss = ok ÷ time x use

in other words only cuss when you really need to and don't make it in every post. Trust me I know every dirty, foul, vulgar, malediction, discourtious, vile, impure, obscene word or phrase out their (work in quto shop) and sometimes in life & in game you rattle most of them off. But as for me, by the time I log in and go to this forum the angst leaves me and I feel a little more calm and collected. I don't really take anyones side (with maybe the exception of the mods & webmaster since they have the holy power known as IPBan) and I can see both sides of the argument.

Now I have to ask myself did I really accomplish anything with this post? it just seems like I went off on a tangent. oh well, see ya in another thread.
